Why is it posed bent over like that?

Ridley and the design team had an idea to play down the "man in suit" aspect by depicting the alien in unusual poses "crawling like a crab", "standing on one finger"... They explored this idea in a cut scene where Lambert is confronted by the alien and it's on all fours like a backwards crab walk
