Advice for tacky old Don Post helmet?

I've unearthed a mid-90s Don Post helmet that's been in a box for eons. The entire surface, inside and out, is tacky as hell. Any advice for clearing it up?

Is it made of vinyl? If so, the paint is reacting with it. I don't think coating it will make a difference. You might have to strip the coating and repaint with a paint that won't react to the base.

Try wiping it down with 91% alcohol and a lint free rag.
