ABS supplier

I'm not finding anything useful with search....

So,

for all you vacuum/thermoforming guys out there, has anyone located a supplier for ABS that is well priced and carries 2 side gloss (non textured) ABS in 4x8' sheets gauges 0.06-0.09? That is 1.5mm-2.5mm for rough conversions.

I ask because my local supplier only has textured and I know I will get a better finish for ABS projects if i find non textured somewhere.

i have no issues with the HIPS i get locally. It's just if the texture comes through on the ABS it takes away from the gloss side.


Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, pretty much all ABS sheet is going to have a textured side and one smooth side.I think I've only seen very small sheets of ABS that were smooth on both sides sold by Plastistruct,but there were very small 4X6 sheets or something like that?Perhaps larger sheets are available on their web page to order?If you are vacuforming or even using it to build/scratch with it,I don't think it would matter much if one side is textured and the other not.Vacuforming and dawing it over a mold should make much of the textured surface dissappear.You can always turn the sheet over when clamping it in the frame to be sure you get the smooth side to bear the part shape/detail and the textured side to be opposite it if it is that detrimental and the same thing if you are scratch building a shape.ILM exclusively used both Styrene and ABS sheet and I don't think they cared if it were textured or not,but I suppose you have your reasons?You can try Tap Plastics,but I think they only carry the black tectured ABD,but I seem to recall them carrying white ABS sheet that was smooth on both sides,but it was a heavy gage...maybe .060 or greater?

Try these guys http://www.k-mac-plastics.com/abs-sheet.htm I looked at theie supply catalog and they had both textured and non textured ABS ranging from .010 to .090.

US Plastic has plenty available, all shapes and sizes. Prices are competative to boot.

US plastics i cannot find any non textured ABS...it's all hair cell in 4x8 foot sheets


the k-mac price would rock otherwise... but $200? ya...right
