Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

That ad ran at my screening

One weird thing happened before the film, though and I'm not sure if it was some kind of viral ad campaign or what. What seemed like one of those PSAs to turn your cell off started, but then was interrupted by footage of a guy taking over the projectionist booth. He had the real projectionist tied up and then put up a sign with his phone number which was a 972 area code. Then all of a sudden that got cut off as well. Very weird. Not sure what that was about especially since 972 is a TX area code and I'm in CA. Anyone else see that?

Well put! The more I think back on it the more I dislike it. I'm sure it's that my expectations were to high but after about a half an hour in I wish someone would have snuck up on me and plugged me in the back of the head
Read the book and enjoyed the movie. It most certainly failed to represent the depth of character in the book and I wasn't crazy about the added characters. Still loved the look of the film and enjoyed the action. Agree worth the 3D dollars. I think the book really deserves a miniseries or even a spoof 3 hour History channel documentary to do it justice.

I think if you have read the book, you will like it less than if you had not but I doubt you'd hate it. I was personally hoping for a less mainstream adaptation but still overall fun. The book really overcame the ridiculousness of the concept with a shrewd mixture of subtlety and panache. The film simply doesn't attempt to but doesn't achieve wild cult status (ala Bubba Hotep) either. It's a lot more Wild Wild West in my mind ( the film). Still the visuals were pretty darn cool.

I was shocked to see te author actually wrote the screen play!
Yup, hearing the same from my unfortunate friends that have seen this. Shame. Who would have thought that the creator of the book could screw up his own story so much:unsure

Just got back from watching this. UUUGh so disappointed. I read the book awhile back before I knew it was becoming a movie and when I heard the author wrote the screenplay I went expecting a great interpretation of his book. What a let down

Sorry guys to all who hated it.

I cant wait to read the book now! :lol

They ran that before AL: VH when I saw it today. I think it was an ad for the cell phone he was holding, but I really have no idea. Definitely a failed ad/PSA/whateveritwas, since nobody seems to know what purpose it served. BTW, the "real projectionist" was Rob Zombie...not that it matters.

As for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the name of the movie tells you everything you need to know about it--it's Honest Abe doing battle with vampires; anyone expecting anything else will be seriously disappointed. There are a few brief non-fiction moments from Lincoln's life represented, but they're few and far between. It could just as easily have been called Joe Schmoe: Vampire Hunter, and it wouldn't have been any different. Fortunately, the vampires are of the "traditional" variety--villainous, no sparkling, no romantic interests--though the commonly accepted vampire lore has been tweaked slightly for storytelling reasons.

Overall, I kinda liked it, but I don't feel the need to see it again any time soon and I don't know if I'd recommend it.

Yuck.

Why they decided to play it serious is totally beyond me. From the title I was expecting a horror comedy, when I saw the trailers and it looked like they were acting very serious I thought it would be terrible however some friends convinced me to give it a chance.

I should have gone with my gut and seen Brave instead. So many groan-worthy, cheesy lines, rediculous action scenes that didn't even make sense in their own fantasy world, predictable characters and I hesitate to call them "plot twists" that were utterly transparent.

Just.. Yuck.

I was a little disappointed it didn't follow closer to the book... At first. I soon realized that they could never have done the book justice in a two hour movie format. I was okay with the re-write. Essentially they gave us a different story, which was a treat for those that read the book - you have to cast your assumptions out the window.

I REALLY enjoyed the movie. It was very much like Cowboys and Aliens - don't expect more than the title is giving you. It was a fun popcorn flick which I could sit back and enjoy.

Loved it. The figurative badass Lincoln made literal. I even went a second time to a 3D showing because my Mom wanted to see it.
