Abc robot... (New pixs added page3)

Hi Rebo,

I have been watching this thread with interest, really nice work.

How is it coming along (as I have shelved the wobbly vinyl kit in eager anticipation)? :)

Re: Project for this year..

Blows cobwebs of this dusty old thread and laughs heartedly at my expectations for the year.

Anyway. I have gathered a renewed interest in this guy, that might be because I have a new workshop at the top of the garden, every man should have one of these getaways!.

Detail bits are to be added later, as at the moment im concentrating on getting the pieces in proportion with each other.

I am struggling with the scribing of the vents so might look around for something to use instead of scribing.

Heres some progress shots, they are in b&w as the primer and yellow material im using look awful in photos. I won't post them all here, check my Photobucket if you like.

In this one you can get a good idea of the size compared to the ebay model.

Hope you like, constructive and unconstructive comment welcome.:)

Phew!... Thanks for the nice comment. I thought I was going to be left out there hanging.:lol

Yeah he is going to be a big mofo, I guesstimate about 2ft tall when done.
I should have his other shoulder done by this evening, providing I don't cook up in this heat. I will post a pix if I get it done.

On a side note I have located some nice sized convoluted tubing to use on his internals. Its the stuff they use to hide the wiring when they fit lights on recovery vehicle and the likes

that is coming along great i hope you decide to get it cast as it would go great alongside my 2 foot dredd figure i sculpted years ago :)

If you are after pictures I still have them on my photobucket, in the sub folders.
I never got much more done than what you see here, I do still have them up in my garage though.
Maybe i'll get back to it one day.:/

hey cheers for that Rebo sorry to hear it's on the back burner. The work you have done looks amazing!

Do you mind sharing a bit about the construction of the body? How you went about it?

I've added your photobucket gallery to my list hope that's cool :)

Thank you.

The body is made from a plastic (sintra, maybe?) that was easy to shape after soaking in boiling water.
I cut the parts out in the flat plastic, slightly oversized to allow for sanding and formed them over a mug and a bottle neck. After gluing the parts together the edges were cleaned up with bodyfiller. I also used bodyfiller for the detail on the shoulders, I just sanded and filed until I was happy with it.

I was just winging it really.

Cheers Rebo that sounds like a really good way to go. The plastic gave you a great finish and would keep the weight down too.

I have wondered whether vac forming pieces might be a way to go, like out of 2mm styrene, enough to get good detail but with too much of a moulded plastic look. But then again just making it out of plastic sheet would give you a similar weight and a better finish. Nice!

The main thing for me is getting the dimensions as close as possible. Did you scale up from the Tsukuda model? I think Sir-round tried that approach
