AA case begins

Awesome Brian,
Can you do me a big favor. Im at work and my relief is about to come in. Hes a HUGE Star Wars fan but not a member here. He LOVES STormtroopers...could you just say "Hi Justin" So I can show him when he comes in?
Thanks
Don

Hi Justin :thumbsup

Brian

Hi Gino,

This is definitely the suit I sculpted and the way I like to remember it. None of the extra details had been added at this stage - or the gun!

Screen test shots taken Elstree Studios 15th March 76.

You certainly inspired me back in 1977. Thanks Brian.

I had the Don Post '77 helmets back then and my Stormtrooper and Vader armor were carefully cut poster board. My grandmother sewed this big, awesome cape (especially for an 11 year old!).

So yes Brian, you definitely inspired a LOT of kids, long before you probably even realized it! :) Thank you sir!

ah ha!! so that plank of wood me and my brother used back in the day as a replacement for imperial blasters was in fact almost 98% screen accurate, bravo!! Great pics!!! :thumbsup

Yes, it is a cardboard and paper mache' original. Used for my own promotion to obtain free Halloween candy. :love

I find it hard to see this as the suit I sculpted and had pride in that you say was used for promotional purposes. :cry

Brian, those photos are breathtaking. Throwing another big thanks onto the alreday massive pile.

BTW, unfortunately, that is just one of many examples of original suits being portrayed in an unworthy state. There are definitely far worse.

Brian, could you tell us who the guy in the armor is in those test shots, or would it rather he remained anonymous?

The proportions in the ANH suit are really spectacular and the individual pieces looks more in-line and fluid fitting together than seen on for instance the later armors.

It is hard for me to look at that original pic Brian posted without immediately seeing this one. So cool!

Hi NHM,

I don't know who was wearing the armour - but it's good to see a proper fit

Yes the original armour was designed and sculpted so that each piece would echo the shape of the piece next to it allowing a small gap to allow for fitting.

Did anyone else notice that in the photos Brian posted, the belt piece is actually wrapped around his knee?

I wonder is this was accidental, or if the belt piece as we know it was originally intended to be on the leg?

.

Those are some great photos - thanks for sharing, Brian! Love seeing the metal finish Artoo.

I imagine Stormtroopers wouldn't be above taking a prisoner round the back of the cantina and beating them with a length of 2x2. "He fell down the stairs , Sir".

Good eye, never noticed that :thumbsup

Great pics Brian BIG THANK YOU.
I'm trying to get my head around the timeline here so that's a suit made at elstree where did the helmet come from ?
Is this an elstree suit being used in a test shot after AA was sent the moulds or did elstree guys pull some helmets too ?
Or another scenario entirely ?

I noticed the knee too and the bottom pic that hand plate looks strange

It's very difficult to get an exact timeline. IMO this is a suit that was made at Elstree. The back of the helmet shows that it is not one that was vac formed by Ainsworth.
