A replica of a replica from my childhood

Star Wars came out when I was 14. I had to have a lightsaber, of course all i had to go on was my memory from watching it 3 times. No screen caps back then, and i really couldnt find a good close up picture of Luke's saber till months later. I had found an old shock absorber in the field behind my house, and thought it would do. I clamped it in my dad's vise, and proceded to hacksaw it open, not knowing it was full of oil. My dad was pissed off at the mess i made. after some sanding, painting, an old lamp switch, and the hanger off of a old coleman lantern, it was done. I had that saber for years, till i lost it. last week at work, someone had thrown away an old shock in the dumpster, and i couldnt resist. Here is the replica in all it's made by a 14 year old with no skills, glory.

Is this what it looked like when you made the first one? If so, that's pretty accurate considering no screen caps or close ups. :)

I love seeing stuff like this, btw. :D

I love it.
I wish I had owned one like that as a kid, I would have been the envy of my friends.
Nice simple lines, they should have used one like that in the films.

The best kind of replica. :)

I remember turning Luke's ROTJ one on the lathe at school from memory. Rubbish really but I loved it!

Props can be like your first love, you never ever forget them.

Wow, that is an awesome story, I really appreciate your post. Before I found the RPF, I really thought I was alone in the world - its cool to know they're are equally crazy people out there. Kidding.

I can't tell you how many moments of my childhood were spent sawing and painting and gluing - and how many times my mom wanted to kill me for tracking dust, paint, footprints, etc. into the house. But, man, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way!
