A new sword from Sal Daquila

After many years of "arm twisting" i convinced Sal to make a custom Musashi sword. Using his handle as a base he graphted (sp?) a custom sculpted head creating a completly new sword...
Hes sending me this sword to review, and i should have it in a week and will be able to post more pictures....
Here is a teaser of the Prototype...
PLEASE keep in mind this is a prototype only mounted on a PPK Chen blade. This is a "one off" .........
Just wanted to throw this out there and see what folks thought....

Very nice. By far my favorite katana design EVER. I've always wanted a replica sword that looked spot on to the H1 sword (doesn't HAVE to be functional; I dont want to pay $3,000+ for a good replica because it's "combat worthy", I'm not even going to duel with it, I just want a replica that has an ACCURATE tsuba and hilt) but could never find anything further than crappy replicas than look like the makers only saw the film once taped from a TV and tried to replicate the blurry images into their wallhangers :( .

well the NICE thing about this one is its NOT 100% accurate...... it was purposefully made to be a UNIQUE sword, but the theme of the sword is pretty close to the props....
its not CLEANED UP sooo much to the point that it beceomes something totally different like the Marto replica..... and its not dirtied up to the point of ugliness like the actual prop is...
its a nice mix of rough and refined that makes a pretty nice looking sword...

at least from the pics, i have still YET to get it in hand...... i should have it in a few days and can post more pics

Sal, ya *******. That sure is nice. I always preferred the Connor sword to the Duncan. Nice work, Sal. :)

Oh, and about my first sentence, it's supposed to be like Ewan McGregor when he saw the lightsabers for the first time. "Ty, ya *******."

Its my hope and dream to one day own his Musashi katana (Duncans) and one close to Connors thats not a cheapo. So clarify for me, is this going to be a production piece from him that we can get from his website?

well it just depends on who orders one...

The sword arrived today in pristine conditon, very well packaged...
Under initial inspection of the sword I am VERY impressed with this sword. The work in the handle is really top notch and the sword feels great in hand.... Sal always does a good job balancing the swords out right....
The guard is bead blasted with the edges polished out.... a really nice contrasting look....
I will try to get pictures up in the next day or so better detailing the sword...

Ijust wanted to add that if you are interested in prices and avaliblity of this sword, you can contact Sal Directly at his website www.pointgallery.com .
Im not handling any sales, just a simple man doing a simple review

I see he is doing the Shadows again.

My Girlfriend has wisely hid my credit cards. :p

Will the brass screw be added as well as a more "screen like" hilt finish in the production run? Prototypes are ALWAYS different when compared to the final product. Just asking.

Seth

My question is along those lines as well.... How close to the production piece is it? I've got a couple of cheapo wallhangers that I would throw away in a second if I could get one that was closer to the original. I know you said it's not exactly like the original, but how much of a difference are we talking?

no brass screw will be added, we figured that was just TOO ugly to go on a production peice of this quality...
The finish you are seeing is Sal's "Grey" finish.... I imagine when and if he starts doing these on bushido blades they will be avalbile in a brown finish as well.
what you are looking at pretty much IS the final look of the sword, the only changes will be a bit of cleaning up of mold lines, but thats about it.

Sal told me that he expects to have these in regular production by April/May of next year ;)

Well, I guess you can add the screw later if you'd like, as well as modifying the hilt's weathering to your taste.

Would you be willing to give away those rather than toss 'em out :$ ?
