A New Look for the RPF!

Ok, so some of the customised logo ideas are neat, but after seeing another, and another, I'm realising that the font is both dated and potentially not clear enough.
In some variations the letters start to lose their readability, especially the F, but that's due to using a font very similar to what ST:TNG were using back in '89.

Having said all that, I will admit that THeNickFox's BTTF design is the nicest version of the new logo I've seen, but that's because it re-introduces colour, gradients and a sense of interest with the contrasting border.

Just for your kind words, here, have a desktop background!

Art, are we keeping customizable themes into the update? I'm not sure of the specs and limitations of the upgraded forum software, but seeing how people are reacting to the different logos, it could be cool to let people pick the logo displayed based on their preferred fandom.

Barring that, just go Google style and use designs that relate to days in film/prop history. So November 5 would definitely be BTTF themed!

Thanks, Nick. I think my love for BTTF may have a little to do with why I like your design :lol Your idea is a good one, though, regular changes to the theme, people anticipating what the next one will be, discussing the current one, perhaps voting on future ones.... It could certainly generate some community participation, maybe re-kindle interest in obscure films when their turn comes to be logo-fied?

Somehow I forsee this being used in our styleguide for what not to do with the logo... LOL It is very very cool and definitely screams BTTF, but you are never likely to see a distorted version of the logo on anything official. Still, it IS cool!

Purely from a branding standpoint absolutely. Any change to the physical shape of an established logo is a huge "no-no".

I do like the customizability of it though (whether you like the logo or not). I can imagine there will be loads of variations as avatars.

You may think of me as partial but I think Art can attest to the fact of if I don't like something, I'm quick to tell him. But I have to say that as soon as I saw the new logo, while still in progress, I loved it. It is crisp, clean, and just was enough of a sci-fi look for me. When we chose the last one, it was not my choice but I did grew to love it. Many may not like the new one but once you see it on here day after day and start to associate it with your favorite place to hang out, I think you will too.

As for the tagline. Seriously, we have tried so hard so many times to come up with something and for all the reasons Art has mentioned, it was so hard. To not be too specific yet being specific enough to convey the right message, while not alienating one forum or genre AND make it short and sweet, is almost impossible. The second Art shared "Craft your fandom" with me I thought it was genius, then thought "why did it take us so long to come up with this?"

I respect the motivation to keep things updated and improve whenever the opportunity arises, and I am sure that I will grow accustomed to the new logo. In my humble opinion though, the new design blends in too well and the brand (the RPF) gets lost. From a merchandising standpoint, I want the item that I want to sell the most of to jump out and be noticed right away. A display with no color breaks or if it has a repetitive design gets lost to the customers eye, and they will walk right past it to get what they came there for. I mean no disrespect and I understand that a lot of thought went into this that is beyond my grasp of its purpose. I also understand that this is a different beast than merchandising physical product. I like what was said before in this thread, it's just a label and doesn't change the awesome community inside. Good luck Art !

Why not take a page out of Burger King's book:

RPF: Home of the Wampug.

Oh...DON'T encourage her.

I'm afraid I may have misread that, leading to the attached image.

My apologies.

PS: Once I stop laughing, I will apologize for real. :lol
I love you Nick! I may have to marry you so long as my husband doesn't mind :lol:lol:lol

You didn't like the "Put your dog in a dress" tagline from those yahoos that hate the RPF but can't stop yappin' about it?
:lol Oh don't even get me started. A dress? A DRESS?! At least get it right! My dog wears kick ***** costumes. Clearly jealous over the fact that my dog wears cooler costumes than their kids ;)

And let me add..

:behave:behave:behave:behave:behave

No disrespect to anyone but animals dressed up isn't the slightest bit cute to me. :lol

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :lol
