A New Look for the RPF!

It will be your choice to believe it or not, but the logo design had absolutely nothing to do with merchandising. As you said yourself, we have had plenty of successful sales on the current logo and we haven't even begun to exhaust its potential. We could have sold shirt variations based on it for years and years to come. This is a change we absolutely knew would have to be made since Jan of this year for a number of reasons that I am not going to bring up here. Beyond that, I had mentioned in my first post, we have known since the first day that there were issues with the current logo that really needed to be addressed and due to the needs that arose in Jan, this became the perfect time/opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

Art, it's not that I don't believe you, and I do understand where you're coming from. I guess from my limited perspective as only a member, and not the site/brand owner, I'm not able to see how the other logo "fails."

And to be brutally honest, the thought probably would not have even crossed my mind about merchandising opportunities with this new logo had it not been for this line in your post...

Look for new RPF swag in 2013 with this logo and tagline along with a whole new look and feel for our website!

In the end, if it's in the best interests of the RPF, I'll support it. I'll give the new logo a chance to grow on me. Perhaps it will make more "sense" esthetically when the new site design is rolled out and all put together. :lol

I am kicking GINO in the rump right now to get a post up explaining that in technical detail. I could say it myself, but as a designer, he will be able to explain it infinitely better than I can with a very very limited design background.

LOL. I can understand that and see where that might have been taken the wrong way. Honestly, I am just excited to finally have an RPF coffee cup on my desk!

I can tell you, for reasons we haven't even discussed, this is VERY much in the best interest of the site and community, but I think there are a lot of possibilities from just an "it's cool" standpoint and I think it is going to look really good with the new layout (which is why we aren't trying to jam it into this old layout).

Thanks for all the kind words!!
The road leading up to this logo and tagline has been a long and winding one.
I've wanted to re-brand the RPF for as long as I can remember and am grateful for being given the opportunity.
It's awesome to be able to give something back to a community that has given so much to me over the years.

I was going to write up a big 'behind the creative process' sort of post but Art pretty much said just about everything that I was going to. :)

I know a couple of you have asked but I'd really prefer not to get into the specifics of the shortcomings of the previous logo as the last thing I want to do is offend anyone (which I'm almost certain I'd unintentionally do - shocker!). :angel

Moving the forum from vb3 to vb4 is going to take a little getting used to, but I'm confident that once it's ready that not only will the user experience be elevated, but it will also have a new look specifically designed to inspire you every time you visit.

If not, then you can totally blame Art. ;) :p

I am sooo looking forward to the upgrade to the site... even if it means losing my beloved Legacy theme.

In that case ..... thank god for adblock plus, it will take care for the new logo.

As long as i know where i am, noone who looks over my shoulder needs to reckognize what site i´m watching. Do to the site whatever floats your boat, but leave the legacy as it is.

I´m here for the SW stuff - and the legacy logo above all reminds me to the few SW-topics, hidden between all the fancy Comic, Marvel, ..... stuff

I do like it and they kept its simplicity. However I am tired of seeing logos similar to those in modern advertising. I like the current logo a little because it expresses its uniqueness as I have never seen a logo like it before.

Looks good! I still like the current look, but as long as I have an avenue to forward my plot for worl... er discuss props, that's cool.

Wow, that's unattractive and uninspiring. How awful :thumbsdown
It's a very dated look (which wasn't very good when it was a new look)

Some people aren't really digging "fandom" and all I can say is whether you like it or not, if you are on this site, to one level or another you ARE a fanboy.

psssst..... we all *know* we're fanboys! :lol Someone mentioned giving "legitimacy" of the hobby to the world in general at some point. Yep, I'm a fanboy. Shown the right prop, or given chances to meet, talk with or correspond with some people causes me to salivate heavily.

Bottom line: make it look any way you like. Tag it any way you like. I'm here for the people (who "suffer" the same geekness as me) and to learn how to create cool stuff.

But I do like the sub-forum icons; change them and I'll break you fingers! :behave

Logo's okay, not like the tag line.....
for some of the reasons already stated.....craft, to me, says "middle aged suburban mom at the kitchen table"..........and that just isn't the correct use of the word fandom. Fandom is the fans of the 'whatever'......or at least in my understanding of the word?!?! The line just doesn't express what goes on here.......

I like WarPig's "making reality from fantasy"......or some play of words along that line......

I submit:
Capture the Illusion

.....some variations......

Make the Fantasy Real
Capture the Illusion
or vv
Make the Illusion Real
Capture the Fantasy

Making the Fantasy Real

.....still thinking..........

Art- I think you mislabeled the iPhone screens. The long, thinner one is the new iPhone 5. Just throwing it out there. I love the new logo btw.

Okay, Okay, I GOT IT!!

Are you READY???

This has GOT to be IT!!!!

Are you SURE you can handle it......

Okay, Okay, I won't keep you in suspense!!!!!!!!

From Screens to Reality

TA DA!!!!

Okay, if you really don't like it.....
.....here's a few more suggestions.....

Here We Abracadabra

Making It Real

Get Real

Not Just Make-Believe Anymore

Make It Come True
Making It Come True

......but I really think From Screens to Reality should be it......covers just about ever thang!!! : )))

...except for guys like Orange Blend...or Burgess Meredith or whatever he's going by these days who have replicated historical items.

Honestly, to me, the skin and the logo and the tag on the site are like different clothes on my girlfriend. None of them change how I feel about the site. It's all about what makes the site happy. If the site really wants to show off its legs one day. So be it, the site has great legs. And when other guys look at the site, I...I think I lost my metaphor somewhere in there.

And if the tag line really troubles some people, how about "E Pluribus Propum!" :lol

The site's the people and what they do. The logo really has little impact..just dont expect to sell much with that on it.

We're all "crafters" now ladies ...get your knitting needles....Art and Gino have labeled us and you better like it! Oh and youre all too stupid cuz it's very technical...they dont want to insult our low intelligence why the old logo is clearly inferior to this amazing work of art (pardon the pun)

The logo is fine, but "Craft your Fandom" is almost as bad as "Get your prop on"

Just shootin' ya straight. It would be tough to wear that one on a shirt.

Nice logo though.

Wow... I don't particularly care for the logo, but that is a little harsh. When GINO said he didn't want to offend anyone explaining the shortcomings, he wasn't talking about you or I. He was talking about the original artist behind the current logo. No where did anyone hint at "low intelligence".
