A New Look for the RPF!

I quite like a lot of those colour variations.

GINO pushed VERY hard for that and at first it was something I resisted, but if you look at where many modern logos are going, they aren't necessarily sticking with a single color scheme and are creating logos that can be used in almost any color (USA Today and QVC's new logos come to mind). Sometimes I have to be dragged, kicking and screaming to accept these things, but this is why we went to a professional graphic designer this time around!

The big question is: how will it look with pumpkins or icicles?

Don't know that you will ever see the icicles again. I have actually resisted doing a Christmas logo this year because it just makes me angry when I think about all that it reminds me of from earlier this year...

For those of us graphically impaired, what were some of the shortcomings of the current logo? Just curious

Completely agree...though with the new logo there is always an easy way around that.

No icicles? No problem.

Nice work!

The current/old design always had a dated feel to it. A few years too late for it to feel modern.

The new one is modern while also classic and simple. The versatility is a nice bonus.

Can't wait to see where you take the forum visually (although I'll probably always stick with the classic blue/black/white combo). Visual comfort food at this point.

It also reminds me of the the Snake Eyes symbol/tattoo-

I'm not keen, seems a backward step to a more angular retro style from the smoother sophisticated current logo.

More of a feeling than a hard opinion. :confused

TheNickFox's Hungarian variant has grown on me a little though.

We have had a couple of people mention that there is a slight resemblance to the Arashikage clan symbol that Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow have... to the point I even made a joke about it.

Chances are, outside of the blue and grey, you probably won't see much in the way of multicolors on a white background, but in theory, you are on the money. You will likely see logo color changes along with a graphical element for the various seasons and such.

Completely agree...though with the new logo there is always an easy way around that.

I know i'm in the minority but the logo seems like it took no imagination to make. This site displays so much hard work and imagination it's odd to think that is the best we could come up with. The tag line is fine but the logo looks a bit lazy. Some are saying it looks simple. That word simple doesn't seem to convey the feeling i get when i look at the work shown here at this site. To put it blunt it is blah and unimaginative. I'd be happier with one of those new bar code blocks. In the end it's what in the site that matters but that is like the front door to the place. just my 2 pion cents.

I would also like to know what was considered wrong with the current logo. I think the new logo looks good, though the lettering sort of reminds me of the ESPN logo.

My opinion:

The Cerulean (process) blue is just a bit weak on a white background. I would probably knock it down a shade or two for better contrast. Then, depending on how the gray interacted, it may need to be lightened a bit.

Apologies, but I don't like the tag line at all. To me, "craft" alludes to soccer moms shopping at ACMoore, and when I read "fandom" the word "fanboy" is what I see in my mind. The people here are true artists. Yes, Craftsmen in the true definition of the word, but in today's world "artisians" has taken that definition.

I've seen builds here that far surpass what was done on screen. The inventiveness, dedication and talent here deserve a far better description.

Coming from a member that mainly hangs out in the OT, I realize I have a lot of nerve saying that. But, that's my $.02.

And I like Nick's Christmas logo!

having seen a sneak peak of these last week im really excited now that the new logo has gone live :love

Trouble is now i have to change the UK Branding :facepalm ............ :lol

I can certainly see and appreciate your POV on this and you last line is truly what matters most. The logo... ANY logo, is just a symbol to represent us, but it isn't us and isn't the content of this site, which is the gold.

However, I disagree that this is lazy or unimaginative. I would point back to something I mentioned earlier with is the new USA today logo (look it up on Google). It is a circle. Just a circle. Nothing more. Nothing special. Like you, I thought that was the laziest, lamest and most uninspired logo ever. After several long talks with GINO about it and the graphic design thought process behind a logo like that, I have to begrudgingly admit, it is brilliant in its simplicity and I think the same is true for our new logo.

For me, one of the most difficult things about our logo and tagline have centered around your exact line of thought. This is an incredible rich, diverse and talented community, full of amazing skill and imagination so you would think you need an over-the-top symbol to capture that. Without sounding defensive... try it. Try to come up with something that encapsulates that. I would argue that it can't be done. We are too big and too diverse, with too many varying interests to be graphically represented in a logo. So, instead we went for something clean, direct, simple and timeless, that gives a nod to our past, but also is very modern. We knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I would argue strongly that it is anything but lazy.
