A New Look for the RPF!

I know nothing about graphic design but I see nothing wrong with it. It'll make for a nice update.

I can see what your saying. Funny i had the same thoughts you had when Ebay recently went to what i thought was a child like font for their logo. I guess it's the trend. To us who are here it doesn't matter what the logo looks like, it could be a pile of crap for all i care. It's the projects here i like looking at. Have you guys thought of making the stripes have some of the topics in them , shadowed or like a watermark, semi transparent? Like "REPLICA PROPS" on one stripe then "SCREEN USED PROPS" on the next and so on for costumes, sculpting, modeling and studio scale?

But, I still have not got used to the current logo...
I see no real reason to change it the current logo. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

The new suggested logo is very bland, in my opinion. It looks like a corporate logo, for any bland company. It says "This company has no imagination" and "There is nothing sexy about this company".

The current logo reminds me of Star Wars. A large portion of props here are Star Wars props, though, but far from all, and - believe it or not - some people here don't collect Star Wars props at all. (really? :confused )
I think that if it should be changed, it should be changed only a little, to lessen the Star Warsy feel a bit. Perhaps change the rounded rectangle to white and the aspect into 16:9 or something to resemble a TV/Movie screen. But don't change it too much. Make it so that people still recognize it as the RPF logo!

You could use that logo for the Replica Pizza Forum ...

... or maybe if the forum has been taken over by Hungarian hackers ... :unsure

Didn't really like it when I saw it on the white background, but on the dark background and the different colour variations look great.

I really like the old logo because it's very unique. The new one looks good and very professional, but it also looks like any advert for a new cell phone or Microsoft's newest operating system. It isn't as special as the old logo.

And: Where is the "the"? Since it's part of the domain name, shouldn't it be part of the logo too?

To all responses that it's too bland, this is what happens when you go in the opposite direction! :lol

I, for one, welcome our new logo. It's the people that make this place special, not if the logo is simplistic or outrageously expressive.

Chances are, at least here on the site, you will rarely, if ever see it on a white backgroud since our chrome is dark and will remain dark in the new look. Where you will see it on white will be places like Facebook.

"the" was one of the biggest issues we had with the old logo. It really isn't important (and trust me, if we could afford the $120k that is being asked for www.rpf.com, we would buy it!), and there is really no good place to put it that isnt' a little awkward. So, we just dropped it entirely.

Gino is the right designer... he gets design. clean, simple, elegant and to the point... (has the sci fi feel) I think its finally been nailed down to perfection! I LOVE IT! ITs aesthetically pleasing and will be instantly recognizable.

I love it! I'm going through a similar process at the moment, redesigning a logo that i've been using for a software project I'm working on. It's interesting when you look back at what seemed to look good from a design point of view in the past, to how dated it looks now (and my logo has only been in use for a year or so).

Also typeface, ****ing typeface man. I've spent hours trying to find the right ones. I love the one you're using for the tagline. Do you happen to know what it is?

I'm a little disappointed after your great announcement, I felt like the air of a balloon was blowing out with a fart. I like the current logo and I thought the logo will be taken over the upcoming board upgrade. The new one is a bit too simplistic for my taste.

The current RPF logo is like Windows7 everyone likes and new logo Windows 8, hope that doesn't end in a disaster.

I has a sad :(

I was wondering why i was getting a nosatlgic feeling from the new logo. Kinda reminds me of my old bike.

It's okay. It's neither ultra-inventive nor a digression from what we have. It's just different.

Definitely keep the multiple color schemes. I'm growing wary of all this blue and that green option is calling my name...

I know all those feelings all too well. I am not a designer by any stretch, but have struggled for years with getting the right look for things.

The FONT for "RPF" was completely custom created. The font for the tagline is Century Gothic, one we use on most of our sites.

Getting off-track here, but WHAT?!?!?

You really think the left is better than the right?!?

I like the Microsoft redesign. The new 4-colour logo is cool as well. Less is definitely more.

I guess you're going away from the black/blue design for the new board scheme?

Didn't we only just change the logo?
Not really feeling any love for the new design, but I doubt my opinion matters. It's bland, it's boring, it's flat. Still, it'll be cheep to have it printed on all the new t-shirts you'll be selling.

As for the Windows comparison... I for one think the style on the left is more colourful, more dynamic, had a sense of life to it with the gradients, curves, and lighting. The newest windows logo is just... 'meh'

While the blue/grey/white treatment to the logo is considered the default, we definitely are going to allow for virtually any number of colors to be used, within set parameters, which should allow this logo to be infinitely versatile.
