A new Chewie in Germany

So, I've now made the ranks a little closer. Let's see what that looks like. I like it, it's definitely good for the sections where it's important. For example, under the arms. Otherwise, I'll consider doing it alternately. 3 rows narrower and 2 rows more open.

So, I look like I'm wearing a skirt. Mom helped check again where brown and gray should be. I'm moving slowly and it's still fun. The arms and shoulders area becomes interesting.

I had planned to switch to brown, like in the picture here.

I'm just afraid that I started a few rows too early. The change from gray-brown-gray is more difficult than expected. I tried to orient myself to this picture, which is kind of difficult. My hair is 30cm long. When I started I read in several articles that 30cm is optimal, because you lose something later when you trim. Therefore, I calculated that there would be about 20cm left.

The tape shows 20cm and the clamp where the brown should actually begin. Now that I've started, I have slight doubts as to whether I started browning too early.

When does the part that is fun and easy begin?

An idea- no idea if it's a good idea, but...

On real animals, there is rarely a "sharp" line change from one hair color to another. I imagine they DID use a sharp change, when they made the original costume (I don't know for sure) but maybe gradually changing from brown to gray by starting to blend in gray more sparsely earlier?

I don't know but I would guess there would be a "zone" where the color is changing that would have both gray and brown in it, between the two colors.

But that's reality, and quite possibly not "screen accurate".

You're right, the change from gray to brown has become a bit too sharp. Therefore I try to mix a little more as I continue to knot. maybe I'll add something to the hard edges as well.

In order to defuse the change from gray to brown, I now try to mix a little more as I continue to knot. I have now also mixed a few hairs to make the transition finer. You will probably only see success after a few more rows, but I think that doesn't look bad.

I think that looks more "real".

I don't know if that is screen accurate, but unless you are standing next to the costume used on screen, I think it'll look great this way.

So, left shoulder in front. Here I knotted the hair alternately in different directions. To get a better and more natural tightness. After the first short comb, it actually looks pretty good. I might add something to the transition to make it softer.

And made it again a bit. The front side of the top is done. I'll also add a few hairs to the upper shoulder, but only when I've got there from the other side.

The rear side also starts now. I'm wondering if I should try another one, but if I'm honest, the thought of it already makes me sweat. It's so miserably hot here right now.

Today was a good day. Little sun, no wind - perfect for the workshop. And today I finally dared to stand on my feet. I cut out the soles with the band saw.

After the first 6 I had to think again. I felt like I needed more space. So I made the next ones bigger. The big ones for the bottom for stability and the narrower ones for the top. Everything has to be adjusted afterwards anyway, so it should go that way.

The stencil was my biggest problem. Cut out and cut around quite often. Now I have a good print run, but I'm not really enthusiastic yet. Somehow I don't like it yet, and unfortunately I have no one here to ask. That angle just doesn't seem right to me.

34cm. I get that with this construction when the boots are on too. So I would be at 182 + 34 = 216cm. The head is sure to bring a few more inches.

I am still motivated.

I found these interesting gorilla feet on the internet. Look very interesting. Removing the black hair and sticking the brown ones on shouldn't be a problem. And a first little sample, I liked.

Done. Another section is completed. Made the last knot on the top today. There are still the arms - where I have to pay closer attention that everything is a bit denser below. Une another fitting to see if I spanked something somewhere.

The last stages. The head is in the works and already looks great. I'm really looking forward to it.

The feet are also in the works - although I still have work to do. To do this, continue with the rest of the work on the upper part. The poor. It looks like I'll have the costume ready sooner than I thought. I notice the excitement rising.

Oh man, those goddamn arms. Could it be that they take longer than the rest and are much more fiddly? But it will be. Now I just have to pay attention to where I start the gray hair.

Hours, many hours later. And finally at least it looks like I'm making progress. The change from brown to gray changes the picture enormously. A few more knots and the arm is ready. One. There is another one. This is really a job for prisoners. :)

But that was another incentive to keep going on the Wookie.
The Arms, still. At least one of them is done now. Time to try on. Time to see if I screwed up.
