8th Doctor's alternate sonic screwdriver - Finished

So, I've been working on creating an accurate replica of the 8th doctors alternate sonic screwdriver for some time now and I'm finally getting to the end when I hit a few detail problems. The first of which being this:

At the end of the screwdriver there is what I thought was a screw and nut just like the ones above it-

However, upon looking to see its placement I was confused by the only reference I had with a good look at it-
reference 2.jpg

It appears to be just a little rounded piece that wouldn't stick out as far as the first image. The screw circled in blue also appears to be a flat head screw as apposed to a hexagon socket screw.

There's some other details I need to work out before casting as well, but I'd like to figure this one out first. Does anyone have any good pictures of it or remembers seeing it in person that can clarify which one I should go with?

Also thanks to the people who have uploaded pictures of it, the only person off the top of my head is kingpin.

Re: 8th Doctor's alternate sonic screwdriver - reference pics don't match

I believe that McGann's first Weta sonic was stolen when he was on a train, so Weta kindly gave him another one. It may be possible that there were some very slight differences between the two, explaining any discrepancies between pictures.

I see, I hadn't read too much about that and thought that he had his classic one stolen and this was the replacement for it. Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll go with the screw in the bottom then. I'll post some pictures when i get some time too.

It's been a while and sorry for the double post but here are some pictures:

This is the second print that is missing a lot of details and is a bit off scale but it helped me get the scale to be more accurate.
I modeled it with space on the inside for the sound piece of the "build your own sonic" toy for easy lights and sound.

Here it is compared to elevens sonic and the first print:

many prints and a lot of clean up later i ended with this:

The crystal is cast out of epoxy resin with swirls of blue dye in it that make it glow blue. Unfortunately they have some bubbles in them but I don't think its that bad.

From there I have started molding the rest of the pieces and I am currently running into problems with the mold for the top piece with the fins. Hopefully I won't have to re mold it, but it might come to that.

This sonic is one of the favourites, but the handle really bugs me. It looks too thin compared to the rest of the prop. But either way, you're doing a great job so far. Definitely looking forward to future updates.

Thanks, the handle bothers me a bit too, I keep looking at it and thinking I've scaled it wrong but it matches up. Anyways, my order from smooth-on just arrived so I'm going to try cold casting it soon. I'll get some pictures as soon as I can.

No no no. Not at all. Yours looks identical to the original prop. I was merely commenting on the design of the original sonic, and how the handle of that one looks to thin. Yours looks just like the one Paul McGann used. I really love the job you're doing so far, it's just the original prop I'm not too keen on.

Ok, so its been a super long time and I've been busy, but I've finished up two of the sonic screwdriver because I wasn't very happy with the first one.

Here's the first one, the patina I used on the bottom of this one turned out a lot better than the second one:

And here's the second one. This one got polished a lot better, the crystal got a gloss clear coat, and the whole thing got slightly weathered.
