5 month old Batgirl - now 17 months need new costume ideas

I didn't think I was going to do anything for Halloween but dressing up my kid is FUN! My wife and I decided that she should be Batgirl based off of this earlier pic.

She actually used my first Batman cowl when I was young :lol


So I figured I could make a batman costume pretty readily out of foam. I had to start making a paper template. I totally underestimated the size of my daughters head. It's massive :eek

After redoing it, I finally made it big enough. It fit her pretty well. I was going to leave it like that with the pointed nose but she kept trying to pull off the cowl so I had to make the eyes and nose a seperate piece so that it would stay put.

Added some ears - and got myself a good paper template to cut out of foam.

Here is the first fitting :lol

Then I had to build gauntlets and shin guards

The suit nearly done.

Added the cape this morning

And Finally finished!!!! It turned out pretty well I think... considering she's going to outgrow everything next week. Thanks for looking! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! thumbsup

Oh my gosh!!! That is just the cutest little baby and costume!!!
Job very well done. Yeah, too bad it will be too small for her by next weekend!! Get a baby doll or a teddy bear to put the costume on cause it's just too cute not have on display or something!!

Thank you all for the really kind comments. Yea - my little girl is a hoot. Dressing up babies is really really fun.
I was really surprised to find out that they really didnt make good costumes for babies...The last thing I wanted to do was dress her up like a giant pea pod or something.. :sick

nice! that just reminds me of a costume i made for my son when he was around 4 or 5 months as well. i made superman for him. if i can find the pic, i'll put it up.

Awesome!! Our Annika is 3 years old so she now expresses an opinion in her costume choice: this year she is a bumblebee princess with a baby unicorn.

The title has changed. Time really flies. It's been almost a year!
I'm not a hardcore costume maker like many of you folks here. I only work on these on weekends, so I have to start preparing for Halloween early.

My love for Batman made last year an easy choice. However, I'm having a hard time this year deciding what to dress up my daughter as. There are very few costumes out there for 17 month old kids. I'd rather not go commercial, and everyone seems to dress their kids up as Wonder Woman or Supergirl.

So please, throw out some ideas for some cool girl superheroes. Something that I thought of yesterday was Spiderwoman (red and yellow or black and white costume), however, I'm afraid that no one will recognize who spidergirl is.

Any other ideas? Keep in mind, this is for a baby, so I'm not going all out and sculpting a fiberglass baby vader helmet or Iron Maiden suit or anything (plus I don't think she'll like anything on her head for extended periods of time). She'll grow out of it the following week.

but man... you're making me feel kinda bad that i haven't even started thinking about what my kids should be for halloween yet (4 year old and 9 month old)
doubly bad because i've been working on getting my costume put together for a few weeks now lol
