Sooooo.... I am fairly new here but, I have been scouring this website thread to thread. I have seen lots of great work done here and I believe I am ready to start. a little background, I already am apart of FX sabers as well as TCSS, (Tim is AWESOME) and i have finished two sabers and i am finishing my third.
Now I am ready to do something a little out of my comfort zone. and I could use some pointers. As the title describes I will be making a .45-.50 scale of the bushmaster ACR. Why you ask? well I was in the military for about 4.5 years and i have tons of pics my son has seen and he has been begging me to be me for haloween. so I want to do my best to make that a possibility next year for him. so to start i am going to go with the weapon. I measured my ACR found it to be 30 in in total length then i measured my armspan I took the total length of the weapon and devided it to find a ratio it was .44 so I figure with that knowledge a .45 or .5 scale model would fit him like a full scale model would fit me is this an accurate assumption?
after I finish the weapon i will make him a replica of my HSGI warlord V3 chest rig that i used in afghanistan and following that i will make him or buy him multicam frog gear.
with all that being said my biggest questions are
1) what is a good material to use for a .5 scale replica Wood? foam?
2) I want my picatinny rails to be functional if i use wood will that be strong enough? if i use foam how would i make it strong enough to be functional?
3) I am as of now leaning towards wood so what is the strongest wood glue that i can use to make sure that this thing stays sturdy.
Thank you guys so much I am proud to be a member of such a talented group of individuals and I appreciate your input.
