Thanks to jimmiroquai's awesome Shore trooper build I realised how wrong my helmet was. So with filler a few hours sanding and 30 seconds of paint I fixed the under eye section in true star wars asymmetrical style
That is amazing work so far. I am always in awe when I see people making this stuff themselves. DIY and crafts were never my strong suit. Keep up the good work, I am interested to see how it all turns out.
Been working on casting the lid this week or so. (The do3d faqs state you can cast the files)
The PLA I printed the original lid in wasn't that great with heat hence me casting it in liquid plastic.
So after 1.5 kg of silicone and just over 1 kg of polycraft sg2000 I ended up with the lid on the right.
I've still got the visor mould to finish but I'm happy with the results so far.
I need to start modding the little bits that are wrong on it now
So after printing and sanding and filling and sanding and painting and moulding and casting for the past month I just realised how wrong the do3d files are.
I'm now at the stage of either sacking the whole build off or trying one last cut and shut on the lid to get something like.
I'm off to the bar disregard any posts for the next 12 hours as they'll be drunken babble xxx
Decided to have a shot at the cut and shut.
It's given me a little more angle one the side and put the bottom into a better position, still no where near 100% but better than it was
Still wasn't happy with the sides so instead of sanding the banister like the wife had tasked me with I shot straight into the garage and had a go at this thing that's been bugging me
Added an extra few mm to the top to even the shelf up a bit.
Still got the back to even up though
Anyone got any thoughts on humbrol 47 for the blue on the armour? (sandy backpack blue) It looks pretty close and would fit with the colours of the timeline.
I'm going with Rover champagne beige for the main colour
Sorry about the mess, the Sandy shins are just to see what kind of bellow I could get on the upper leg.
Made the trousers from a set of painters overalls I got them in a much larger size so I could mod the legs. took about 30mm off the lower leg to create the breeches look
Then used dylon chocolate brown for the colour. Just need to remove the front pouch now
before you paint some bondo glazing/spot putty will fill the pinholes, they'll make air bubbles in the top coat if they aren't filled, unless your goinf for the weathered look
I printed it as is, But now I've had a chance to deal with other model designers I'm wishing I'd had a custom lid done .... Cheaper and way more accurate
