A few weeks ago i purchased the 3d files from DO3D.com.
I decided to start with the helmet.
I split the pieces up and printed them.

I started sanding and filling but wasn't happy as i had lost the two grooves in the top.

Decided to reprint the whole thing.

Fibreglassed the inside for strength.

Then on to sanding and filling

Highbuild primer, I removed the detail pieces from the cheeks. Im probably going to take a mold of this when its ready.

Done some more sanding and painting. Ive given it a couple of coats of white gloss to get it ready for molding.
I still need to sort the cheek detail pieces and the rear lower removable part.

I printed all the pieces for the left lower leg.
unfortunately i ran out of my usual filament. I had a roll of blue in a different make. I got a lot of warping and layer separation. Stupidly i carried on and finished the whole leg.

After trying it i decided its too tall and slightly too narrow. I've resized it and am now reprinting.

The files can be purchased from do3d.com. You have to buy them. Send them an email from their website.

Great start, what printer are you using, I just cannot work out what to buy, but this suit seems like a good enough reason to buy,

Thanks.
I'm using a ctc. Its a makerbot clone. I've done a few upgrades, added a perspex enclosure and arm stiffeners and a few other bits.

Awesome work Baron, any feed back about the files? I'm on the fence about buying one and can't find a good review of them anywhere. Are they easy to split up for printing? Do you need any specialized software that isn't free to modify them? I know they come with videos and tutorials are those helpful in any way?

Nice work. Looking good and nice to see someone else working on a Do3d project. I am doing the Mark 46, was wondering what infil and layer height your printing at? Im assuming your using PLA correct?

Just had a look on ebay, do you know what model it is, I am inspired by your build and think its time to purchase, I am waiting on a reply about the cost of the files.

Great Work

Richard..

You can use free software to modify them. I resize with either netfabb or meshmixer.
I use meshmixer to smooth them and to cut up and separate the shells for printing.
I'm using simplify3d to prepare for printing.
They come with a video tutorial that's OK and was a little helpful.
It doesn't go into smoothing but there was a link in an email they provided.
I had to email them as I found a problem in one of the files, they were fast to reply and had a new file emailed over in about a week.

I'm printing at 12% and using abs.

I think it was just called ctc 3d printer dual extruder.
I bought it on eBay UK. They claimed to be the manufacturer.
I've contacted them a couple of times, I had a dodgy cable and needed another thermocouple and they posted them out next day delivery.

It was this one http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/CTC-Dual-Extruders-3d-Printer-Optimized-Build-Platform-Heated-bed-1-Filament-/111889135610?nav=SEARCH

It didn't have the feet when i bought it.

Thanks Baron,. I will order one later tonight ! and copy you in building a suit.

good to see some UK action.

Ive decided to reprint the helmet yet again. Its a bit tight on the ears.
I decided to do a quick paint job on this helmet.

Looks a bit thin front on as well, not sure whats caused this. Will check this when i assemble and print the next one.

Ive reprinted the helmet slightly larger than the last. I just hope it doesn't look too big when put on with the rest of the suit. The old helmet was really tight on the sides without any padding fitted.
I've primed with 2k primer.

Hi, outstanding work, very inspiring,
so much so i think i'll be getting the same printer and files based on those clean prints,
a couple questions tho,
looks like you have an extra fan on front of the extruders, does this make a difference, or is it just for printing ABS, at higher temps?
also what did you put on the print bed, extra sheet of glass?
are there any other mods\tips you could share.

thanks

Thanks.
The extra fan on the front is for cooling pla. It will warp abs.
I use a sheet of glass on the bed. It can be unclipped easily.
When I print abs I used a thin layer of abs dissolved in acetone on the glass.
For pla I use blue painters tape.
I have added arm stiffeners to the printer as well as a perspex cover to keep heat in for abs.

hi, thanks for reply,
im thinking i might tackle these mods when i get mine, dont suppose you have a linky for fan mount files? did that come from thingiverse,

also now hard job deciding which war machine to do, ive just checked the excellent do3d and the mk 1 & 2 have now been released,:)

will be following your progress,
thanks
