3D Printed Stand for Savi Lightsaber

I printed 2 stands for my son for Christmas for his Savi Lightsabers. Here’s one of them. I used hammered metal, hammered bronze and stone finish spray paints. I also did some rust weathering around the bolt heads and welds, and patina weathering around the bronze octagon.

Not perfect but I think he’ll be happy with them.

1. That looks AWESOME !!

2. Do you have any pics of the raw print and pics of the stand during the painting process? I'd love to see what it looked like when you started and follow along with your painting technique.

Oh also, the stand is meant to be mounted on a wall. That’s what the holes are for in the plate. I’m not sure which way my son will mount them so I printed some bolt heads to cover the exposed holes once they’re hung. These still need to be painted.

I wondered if the ‘welds’ were part of the 3D print, are they hot glue or putty?

I’ve never used that hammered metal paint before, it looks great.

The welds are hot glue. That took some practice. I also didn’t mention that I used filler primer and sanded everything before painting. The hammered paint took some trial and error. I had to do it a couple of times on each stand to get it where I was happy. The trick is to put it on thick and you watch the 2 colors separate before your eyes. If you just put on thin coats, it ends up being just one color without the hammered effect.

EDIT:

I also used steel wool to knock down the gloss of the hammered paint.
