"Whether you are restoring a vintage Vicker's Viscount 700 airliner
need spare parts for a YT-1300 Corellian freighter,
or are putting the finishing touches on your astromech droid..."

We are getting very close to the completion of the 100% accurate Vickers Viscount 700 Reading Lamp replica.
We disassembled and laser scanned an original reading lamp.
The metal parts were analyzed using spectrometry to determine the actual alloy content of each component.
The plastic grasp was analyzed by a forensics lab.
The parts are being manufactured in every way identical to the original lamps.

A couple of weeks ago the project took a little bit of an unexpected turn.

In finalizing all the details of making a completely authentic replica of the Vickers viscount reading lamp, the RP shop at work offered to run one of the parts in nylon as a test of one of their new Stratasys and one of their new EOS printers. The prints were incredible. Far beyond what we were getting off our Makerbot. The image shows the PLA Makerbot print on the left compared to the EOS print on the right.

The quality, even of the threads, is exceptional compared to what we were printing ourselves. The threads are 100% functional.

We decided to try printing the rest of the parts using Shapeways.
We ordered sets in nylon, UV cured acrylic polymer, and in sintered stainless.

The actual run is going to be for stamped and machined aluminum, cast aluminum and Bakelite, and glass.
After talking it over, we decided to set up a store so anyone can have the parts 3D printed on request at any time.
The parts are available in nylon, UV cured acrylic polymer, and in sintered stainless.
This is much more cost effective for people that might feel priced out of the 100% correct replicas.
