32" MF Radar Dish

I know of a few people that say the end cap of Fruehauf Tanker is the dish that's used for the Falcons Radar dish.... It just doesn't look right to me.

This was probally brought up by someone else, somewhere else and ruled out. However, I'm going to throw it out there.....

Would the Monogram Apollo Command Capsule be a likely donor kit for the radar dish, particularly the flat dish that's connected in the top left tree.

Does anyone have a kitscan of this model or any other of the same subject... it could be a Revell, Monogram or even Airfix that's pre-1977. Any info on the Apollo Command Module kits would be appreciated.

I've discovered that the original release of the Monogram 1/32 Apollo Command Module was in 1972.

What is the dimensions of the flat dish? form the image you posted looks to big an the looks like there was no evidence of the "numbs" were they would have been

But is also reminds me from the end cap on the the oil tankers you see on trains

in 1:32 scale the command module would be about 12 cm in diameter. I think the Falcon dish is more like 7 or 8.

Unfortunatly, this isn't my kit, I found the image on the net. This why I'm asking for information on this kit. I would also like to learn the dimensions of this piece.

I've noticed the "plastic knobs" on the surface and I think they can be sanded down. Parts on the 32 where sanded down before applied to the Falcon.

I would just think you see some kinda of left over from sanding usally when you sand something you can see the "grain" you sand in. Unless they use a finer grit but just seams like to much work if your trying spending a bit on a single piece when you got a bit to do

Agreed. I have this Apollo kit, and it is way to big around. That part may have worked for the 5-footer, but not the ESB model.

That's a very similar profile for the dish Moes, I wonder if the tank kit parts would fit in that depression on the dish, do you have this kit?

Took pics but can't get the card reader to down load. But the Apollo kit part is way bigger. Nearly twice the diameter.

The Apollo part is 12cm in diameter, and the MR dish is 7.5cm.

Thanks for the reply with the size PHArchivist. So by your measurements and Tims info, one of these kits would have to roughly be 1/48

That would leave one of these two as something to be looked at,

I'm not up on my Space rocket sizes, but there is three options with the second kit, and I can't see them being all the same size.

So, if anyone finds themselves on Evilbay, in a fierce bidding war, well, you're probally going up against me... LOL!

I dont know much about the 32"er,but I do know that Plastruct has many
curved dishes in a multitude of sizes.Id be very surprised if they didnt have exactly what you need.When I was looking for my dish I found one there that was just right.Ive since rebuilt the base,but the dish itself was spot on.Its been a while but I think it was under acrylic dish.I wouldnt be surprised if they did the same for the 32.

The plastruct dish was used for the five footer (I learned this from others on these sites) but what rules the plastruct dish out for the radar dish on the 32, is the "wall" of the acrylic is too thick when compared to the reference pics that are available online (I also learned this from others online).

Well,I'm not an authority on either of the falcon miniatures, but I still think the radar dish is from the AMT 1/25 tanker kit. The back end of the dish has the same detail as I recall,but I could be wrong? The only other possibility is if the radar dish was made from a locomotive kit, but I think the dished ends are "too concave" and they may not be the correct size.Otaki made some 1/50 scale locomotive kits,one was an oil or fuel tank kit.I used to have it,but have since sold those kits.Sometimes you can find them on EVIL:angryBAY, but they aren't cheap.Expect to pay BIG $$$.

Eventually, I'll be purchasing the AMT 1/25 Fruehauf Tanker kit for the parts needed for the top rear engine details, when that day comes, I can take a better look at the parts in question.

I don't think the Fruehauf Tanker supplies those parts on the engine deck either :unsure

I'm not a kit-parts ID expert, but I can measure the older glue-bomb's that I'm slowly restoring. And I can say that the 1/48 scale Apollo is 8.50cm across at the part being discussed - actually 8.6cm.

This is sorta good news, mainly as the 1/48 version is one of the older Apollo kits that still commands rather high prices... when it can be found at all. So, that may save you some cash.
