2001: Aries 1-B

I like to design and print stuff using my 3D printers. Here is my latest creation. It's a 1/40th scale Aries 1-B variant that I am going to use for some Moon vehicle designs I'm working on. I started doing research on it two months ago and it's now about 90% finished. It's 15 inches in diameter. I'll take it apart (it's held together with nuts and bolts) when the weather allows me to give it a paint job. By the way, by my calculations the Moebius model that recently came out is closer to 1/54th scale than 1/48th as the original prop is about 30 inches in diameter and about 1/20th scale.

No, actually they are cheap rubber ones that you can get on Amazon called "Big Bucket of Astronauts". You get about 50 in eight or nine poses and they are two inches tall including helmet and boots which is close to the 1/40th scale of the model. I bought them last year while I was working on my Moon rover for the Moon Village Association. They asked me to design a machine that could provide transportation from a Lunar lander to a habitat without the passengers having to wear space suits so the first thing I needed was a lander. Thus the Aries 1-B came to mind as I figured it would have some instant recognition as a legit design which would flow into my concept. I had to build the lander first, and here it is.

By the way, here is a shot of my rover...
