2-1B Medical Droid, anybody been working on one?

Good work guys. I am definitely going to cusom make the chest piece from ESB unless we can figure out what found parts can be used.

I was going to comment on the cones appearing on the medical frigate. I guess poor 2-1b didn't make it out of the hoth system before the base was destroyed. :(

A bump for this thread and a new discovery....

You may have seen the other thread where Chris Reiff and I uncovered a found part on several ESB props.
http://www.therpf.com/index.php?showtopic=116364

The inner part of a type PL-259 coax connector was used on IG-88, FX-7, and 2-1B.

The part with the knurling is cut off to fit the piece into the microphone but you can see here the smooth end and threading:

On close inspection at COSI we noticed the connector on 2-1B was an older silver plated one (very tarnished now). Newer ones are nickel plated with only the tip plated silver.

A couple more observations from COSI...

2-1B has another cone on the back of his head. It's located where the recessed circle is on the Zorg head.

There's a small toggle switch on the left side of his hip towards the back (to turn on the lights I assume).

I have one more ESB 2-1B part tracked down that I will post later once I confirm measurements.

Sweet. Any chance of more pictures of the other things you found? I can't wait to see him myself in a month or so.

So who is going to have a complete 2-1B for the droid room at C4? I might if I go.

Hey Fort Tusken Chris, I just wanna say thanks again for that blueprint.

It's really helping out and now I'm starting to get some plans together.

Thanks dude :)

No probem. I also have a hi resolution picture I found on the net of the actual prop that is actually sharp when blown up to 1/2 scale that I am using. Let me know if that would help. It kind of bridges the gap between the plans (prototype) and the actual ROTJ prop.

Some more information on 2-1B.

I noticed that he has "HML" stamped on his chin. I looked it up and the HML labels a set screw 3-position switch on vintage 55s microphones. It's odd that the prop builders chose to grind off the whole hinge part of the microphone rather than just turn it upside down and hide it in the bridge of his nose.

(Note: this is not the same model Shure microphone, just the best pic to illustrate the point)
Anyway, the PL-259 connector was plugged right into the hole for this set screw/switch.
The ground stump area was covered with paint.
There is a second existing hole for the cord in the underside of the microphone. During ESB this hole was plugged with a diamond knurled thumb screw.
(You can see it just to the right of the PL-259 connector in the pic below.)

I found the correct size thumb screw at mcmaster.com for $3.31 each.
part number 91746A219
3/16" diameter head, 3/8" head height
#8-32 threading, 1/2" stem

I'm still trying to figure out what the small comb-like piece is on his chin in ESB. It was obviously added to obscure the "HML".

I'm not sure what is inside the microphone during ESB. It's empty now.

And a small part note...
The rubber o-ring that goes on the PL-259 connector is a size #7.
59 cents at my local hardware store.

Bump. Don't want to lose this one. I haven't been making any progress over the last couple weeks. Trying to get painting done on my car before the weather turns.

Well I took over 200 pictures at the SWSI Exhibit in Portland. I have some really good shots. I will probably have to get an online picture site setup for them, any recommendations for something free and easy?

Here is a taste (notice the duct tape holding the front and back clear pieces together.):

Here is a shot of his backside where the switch lonepigeon was referring to is.

Here is the backside.

Also anyone know where I can get these flanges? I think they are the common type used in theater for lighting pipe/rigging etc.

"It's odd that the prop builders chose to grind off the whole hinge part of the microphone rather than just turn it upside down and hide it in the bridge of his nose."

the bracket that comes with the new shure mics are far larger than the old ones, the bracket would have to be cut no matter what way up you mounted it, i personally cut it and mounted they way i did because thats the way the original has been done

This is the inside of a BELL 5197-0 Lamp Holder Cover. It's die cast zinc, and the outside is painted gray. I inserted the two slotted hole plugs that came with it. I bought it from a local Grainger Industrial Supply store, for $5. I believe they're also available on line at Grainger.com, their part number for it being 2V627.

The electrical supplier Pass & Seymour also makes a similar part, but I haven't been able to find someone who will sell just 1 to me :( . Their part number is WPRB13.

Any news on this lately? After looking at it again at the SW exhibit at OMSI I found out the neck actually has two aluminum plates and not rings that it swivels on. I am not sure how I will make those but it seems like that would be easier to make a bearing with than the rings.

I am currently working on my internals (plexiglass plate with transformers and greeblies) and then the clear vac form chest and back.

Hey Crops, I really like some of the pics from that slideshow.
Any chance I could score a set?
the profile immages you have there, some have an orange-ish tinge, I haven't seen thoes befoure.

I ask because I can import a jpeg into autocad where I'm working on some body designs.
