1St Time Pred Suit

hi guys,

long time lurker first time builder. so finally decided to after many years to attempt to build a predator suit.  This will all be on a budget but hoping to make something half decent. i am going to post up my progress here with pics and hopefully get some tips from you guys as i go along

for starters i have one the of Rubies AVP pred masks that i am going to adapt (add more dreads etc..)   but first i am starting on the gauntlets.

I have decided to try and make foamie armor and for starters i have decided to try first with the blade gauntlet.

after raiding a local pound store i was able to get 2 foam knee mats (for use as the blades) and a foam camping ground mat.

cutting out the blades was tricky (used craft knife and wall paper scissors - ended up using sand paper to smooth them a bit and then using the softer foam as the under arm piece. this is what i  have so far...  next will be build up the gauntlet more and add detail to it.  Using for hands an old pair of werewolf hands from an old costume and some bike gloves (will do them up later just more to get an idea what it will look like)

Looks like you're on the right track dude.
Hell I was so clueless at first that I bought a Mysteria bio that I was conned into believing was made by Marvel artist Nick Bradshaw. I thought I had a masterpiece of a bio! Although thought in the back of my mind it looked a little small.
With thanks to the Lair I learned I discovered was was ripped off and didn't have ****.
Since then I have learned alot. I'm only here since last year, but I can't thank the lad's here enough as I've learnt so much about the like of recast's etc.
I'm sure you too will in time learn what I have.
Welcome to the Lair, the nicest bunch of fella's and the odd's lassies that you'll meet!

That looks like it could make a cool plasma caster.  ;)

As for the Rubies Deluxe mask, there are a couple threads here (including mine) about modifying it by adding dreads, adding teeth, and adding quills. Just do a search.

It can end up looking pretty good, and is a great way to get a mask on a budget.

again thanks guys for the welcome and the very helpful tutorials etc.. been working away today on the suit  first up made the plasma cannon - ended up going all foam with it as the plastic cartridge was just to heavy these are my pics so far

got some more done this week - got both gauntlets, plasma cannon and bio from the rubies mask painted - very happy esp with how  the blade gauntlet turned out.  for the bio i drilled out 3 holes for the tracking lights and glued in a red bicycle light that i had lying about - actually turned out pretty cool.  so onto painting the chest Armour now :)

chest Armour and back pack all now sprayed and complete - ended up attaching the gun arm to the side of the pack park as it was strong enough to sit on my shoulder like in the above pics.  also complete work on my feet  going for the avp style Armour shoe/boot  using foam around an old pair of trainers and sticking on the detail.  very happy with how things are turning out as ive never done something like this and how easy it is to work with foam - next to start work on the rubies mask adding dreads (just awaiting for some foam backing rod to arrive via post) - but already it looks vastly improved with the re-pained bio :)  and then finally the leg guards

got a lot more done in the last week  - first i modded the rubies mask  by adding more dreads which instantly made it a lot better looking.  for this i used foam backer rod painted it black,  then i got some white plastic pipe  which i spray painted copper to make the dread beads

If you add some teeth to the Rubies mask (I cast a set for myself, but I've also seen people carve teeth from balsa wood) that is a quick way to improve it, as well.   :)

will give the teeth a try lflank see what i can come up with  what would you use to cast with normally?

You are off to a good start Greg..its great creating something from nothing.

You could try making the teeth from ' Milliput' its cheap, light and can be sanded and painted.

Are you planning on going to the Dublin comic con later on in the year to show off your suit?

cheers

Well, I made a model out of clay, made a mold from Oomoo, then cast it in resin. That's a little involved and kinda pricey, though.

A quick and easy way to make teeth is either do like Sean said with the milliput, or sculpt some out of Sculpy, bake, paint, and add them to the mask.  I've used it in the past and had good results.  Epoxy putty is an option as well.
