Thank you Zee. Both sides are done, I just got lazy and didn't want to spin the boat. It may look like a lot done, but what you said a few posts back is so true. It's at that point in the build where you add anything and Orca comes alive. I'm Loving the Harpoon Gun, Almost looks like she'd actually fire.Wow you’ve got a lot done
Wellllll,......................It's really not white. It's actually a muted green, The white look came from Heavy weathering and a lot of sun bleach. The two best shots of Orca's true color in the movie, are when they're loading the boat, and when we first see Orca passing the dock while everyone is clamoring about the Tiger shark that was caught. You are right though,.....Getting Orca's colors right is what gives her Character. Her deck color, Inside Cabin color, Red trim color, and of course her over all color. Now take all that and weather the hell out of it lol.Looking good.
With the Orca, I feel like it's critical to get that dirty off-white color just right.

Did you ever notice this? (see picture) when they brought the Orca back to Universal, they repainted everything except one side of the flying bridge. That did it for me, seeing how they weathered the boat was just so captivating. I agree with you through and through! That's what I mean. The white color was so faded that it didn't leave the impression of a white boat on your mind.
Imagine if you asked some random viewers of the movie (like a week afterwards) to recall the boat's main color. I doubt that most of them would recall it being white. They would probably struggle for an answer and eventually guess something like "light gray" or "bare wood". The boat's overall visual impression is that it's just weathered to hell. The impression of the fading & weathering is stronger than the impression of the original color, even though the original color is still clear to see.
This is sutch an odd shot I have it in my ref file but it dosent match anything the front windows are to narrow the bow is all wrong , is this not the boat from the Florida park ride. I don’t think it’s the ORCA, I could be wrong.Did you ever notice this? (see picture) when they brought the Orca back to Universal, they repainted everything except one side of the flying bridge. Wow, OK, now you've got me wondering too. Did you notice the buoy is in that photo too? This is sutch an odd shot I have it in my ref file but it dosent match anything the front windows are to narrow the bow is all wrong , is this not the boat from the Florida park ride. That would make a ton of sense!! I would have never thought of that. It is truly amazing how Hollywood can build a full size prop, and it's only on screen for 5 to 10 seconds. You know all too well Filmzy, That 8 foot tall transport ship for Band Of Brothers you made. Thank you BatGuy this is enlightening.IIRC this is the sunken wreck of the Orca in the opening scene of JAWS 2. The crew made it out of some other boat that they found locally in Florida.
I have wondered if this thing ended up getting pieces off the original stunt Orca, like the top flying bridge. And maybe they used a brighter white paint color to help make it visible underwater.

There you are!!! I was getting worried about you too. Thought maybe something happened. Glad to see you back!! The surgery was a complete success. She's had a week of healing and this week are all doctors appointments. LMAO Midnight oil is right. The wife can't do stairs or sleep flat, so she's sleeping in our back Den sleeping upright in a reclining chair. I check on her through the night. It's one of those things, when you're awake you're awake. Sooooooooo,....after checking on her I'd run down the basement and do some building. I carry around one of those baby monitors,....If I hear her stir or yell out I drop everything. Glad to see you back on here my friend, and Thank you for your thoughts!!!Well, glad that your wife went through the surgery with flying colors (appropriate since this is a thread about a boat).
You're burning the midnight oil with all of those great update DCN! It's looking better and better by the day
