1/72 V-wing scratch build

Hi all. One of my first scratch builds was a 1/48 scale V-wing. I really liked the design and thought it was a pity that it was only briefly seen in Episode 3. While that build gave me the opportunity to learn, I think I can do a better job now that I have accrued more experience. So a couple of months ago, I took apart that scratch build, so that I can make measurements. Here are a few pictures of what it looked like and what it looks like now (disassembled).

I figured I would build a 1/72 version. Making the details work at that scale is going to be tough, but I figured it will be a good learning experience. It will also let me figure out what scale my current skill allows me to build at. I am planning to build a LAAT - AT-TE next, so this is a good learning exercise about my own limitations!

Here are the WIP pictures for the 1/72 scale build. I am not done yet. Making the guns are tough at this scale, because I cannot easily borrow a suitable greeblie to substitute.

Great build(y) I don't know if you're collecting bits and bobs to use as greeblies in your build (like me:p), but the World around you is full of those! The list is too long to post here...

Both the old and the new are looking fantasic. Excellent job so far.
I have to admit, I was not aware of the V-Wing, but it has a very interesting shape. The look reminds me of a mixture of an A-Wing and a Sith Infiltrator. I will have to fire up the Bluray and have a look-see.

I am considering making a 1/48 kit of this, if there are enough interest. It will be a few sheets of styrene with the pattern scribed with Cameo. Resin cast of the bottom round shape, droid, pilot, engine exhausts. The canopy is the toughest. Someone would need to make a buck. It would not be a conventional kit though - its more like scratchbuilding except you have all the necessary pieces.
Let me know if there is interest. Or if a kit maker wants to take this on. I dont know if I will ever have the bandwidth to turn out a kit.

Thanks, searun and analyzer! I can definitely generate a couple sheets of cameo cut 1/72 scale for a few beta testers to try out. I am building it at 1/72 and I realized how difficult it is, which is why I thought 1/48 might be more manageable as a kit.

I would not mind out being a beta tester for 1/72

1/48 is definitely a more manageable size and I am sure people would prefer that scale, but I have kind of become 1/72 obsessed completionist since there were so many more kits available in that scale

of the major vehicles left that are manageable in that scale, I just need an AT-TE, LAAT carrier and Imperial Shuttle and Sand Crawler

I was lucky enough over the years to fill in gaps left by commericial kits with garage kits for things like the Snowspeeder, Cloud Car, Tie Bomber, Hailfire Droid and Trade Federation tank, or find things that were close enough like the Hot Wheels Han Solo speeder that could be converted

The V-Wing you have looks so much better than the resin kit I have so I would not mind an "upgraded" version though :)

I have worked up plans for a Sand Crawler, but have not started yet

Interested in blowing it up to 1/24?

I can cameo cut the size you want. For 1/24, you will need to figure out how to make the canopyand bottom round piece. Letme know if you are interested. I am quite busy right now, but during Christmas break, I can cut these for you.
