1/72 Bandai A-Wing Starfighter

I've been finishing up a Bandai A-Wing that I pulled from my stash last October. I primed it with my go-to primer these days, Badger Stynlrez (in black) and modified the engines to accept LED's. I originally wanted to light the cockpit too, but the tight interlocking nature of these snap-together kits forced me to try and bend the fiber optics in ways I didn't care for, and so I skipped that idea for this build. I started in on a custom paint scheme but changed my mind and soaked the painted parts (Tamiya acrylic) in some Windex to take them back down to the primer. Resprayed with Vallejo Model Air in white/gray and yellow and weathered with an oil wash and pastels; chipping courtesy of a fine brush. Clear coat is Mission Models clear flat. I just have to finish up the pilot and I'm awaiting delivery of a micro-switch for the base before calling her done.

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH! Outstanding! Love the yellow and black. I have not even cracked the box on mine yet. Am somewhat discouraged about the cockpit not able to get wiring and lighting to it easily. Planned to do simple LED light in the cockpit and the engines and also for the Gun tower in green. Love what you did there.

That's awesome! Awesome paint job! I have such a hard time departing from "on screen" paint jobs... like, I just don't have the eye for what it could be over what it already is... which is kind of a bummer! Great job!

Invar, thank you! There was another builder who placed an smd LED in the bottom of the cockpit and ran some fiber to the front and side instruments. I tried to copy his method but couldn't quite nail it. Next time!

ShedShopMaker, I too am a bit hard on myself when I attempt to replicate canon paint jobs. If it's easy I'll give it a shot but otherwise I'll try and whip something up myself.

Really nice job on this! Custom paint jobs are always nice to see as it expands the story of the Star Wars universe in my mind. This one reminds me of a WWII P-51 Mustang which seems fitting for the A-Wing I think.

Who do we have escorting us on this mission today?
Looks like we have the Checker Tails today sir.
I've got a good feeling about this. Good chance we'll make it back.
