I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post. Hope it is. I'm currently working on 1/6 X-wing Cockpit only to include R2 space. I posted the progress on a different site so, I'm sorry if you have seen this before. I try to give credit where credit is due. It is very hard to find reference material for the inner cockpit pictures(behind the seen pics or images that others have created to be as accurate as possible). I looked for pics throughout and used the ones that I thought were the best ones for this project of mine. If used your reference images and did not give you credit I apologize send me an e-mail and I'll be sure to mention it. That being said here are my posts:

This is my 1st custom piece. I decided to build a custom 1/6 X-wing Cockpit section only. I don't have room for a full x-wing. I have the new Luke from Sideshow on order and I figured that I would need something to display him with. I used the x-wing PDF plans, that Oldman made, which I found on the RPF forums. Not sure who it was that Made the PDF's but I took the measurements and converted them to a 1/6 scale for my diorama. This is a 1st try to see how everything fits together.

I printed the cross sections off and then taped and cut them out on Foam board;

I bought two poplar wooden dowels to help space out the sections:

Image of the seat; (The seat is not canon. Had a hard time finding images of the seat. The cross section book has the an image but doesn't match the movie)

I used a 1/2 pvc pipe to also help line up the sections;

I secured the cross sections with hot glues

I'm using balsa wood to skin the frame of the cockpit.

I think this is the closest seat to the one seen in the behind the scene shots of the X-wing cockpit.

I cut out a pattern for the seat to see how it would look once in place.

Did some more work on the seat, cockpit and outer area.

The seat I used come card stock, cushion material, and pleather to make the seat. I like this one better than the 1st one I tried;

I built out the front part of the inner canopy from card stock to see how it would fit before I built it from balsa wood.

Update:::::

Did a little more work on the back canopy. (I got the back canopy image from someone off of this site working on a scratch build.) Adding some details to the vent. Still got a ways to go to where I want it to be.

Working on the hydrolic's for the canopy. Found some plastic spacers that are about the right size:

Also working on the front of the cockpit. Drilled out some holes lights and two screens.

also added the side panels for the front of the cockpit so there's no hole on the sides anymore.

Everyday there's a little something else to add. I worked on the back canopy were the coolant hoses attach the center back.

Well, I not sure if I want to paint the inner cockpit or print pictures and cover them. I mean I still will add the greeblies to the cockpit (knobs and LED lights)

As the consummate lurker (I know next to nothing about how you people work your magic), I nonetheless know what I like, and I think this is looking fantastic. :)
 
Great work so far. I love seeing people scratch-building stuff. Both they and the viewer learn so much from it.
Will keep an eye on this thread for sure!
 
It's snowing pretty good out there so it gives me some time to work on the X-wing. I added more detail to the hydrolic pistons for the canopy, painted some more detail in the rear vent, and built the joystick for the X-wing. :D

1st the joystick; I wanted to be able to move the joystick left, right, forward, and back. I had to build some movable joints.

I covered the bottom with the pleather and I trying figure out the placement for it.

Working on some details in the cockpit. tried to figure out how to make the Flex tube located on the right hand side of the cockpit. I used a small aluminum rod and some thin black tape and super glue to get the best look I could. It still needs some paint. but you get the gist;

Next I wanted to figure out how to make a Holoprojector eye for the right hand side. For the real prop they used the vickers light, the same as the R2 hp eye's. still some work and paint, but I think I have the right size. I used a plastic spacer and a plastic ball bearing that I had.

Not much to add but I was able to paint the Holo and Gray flex. I also cut out the glass plates on the inner cockpit. There are quite a few details that I didn't notice in the movie but are popping out in the movies stills that I have. Just trying to find as many angles as I can. :D

For anyone who wants them, here are the two side panels and front top of the cockpit I created also attached the front counsel I got off the internet (made some changes, may make some more.- I'll upload this one later tonight. :D )

Top view: (There are two more Big LED/lights that are next to the Big Red LED location. I just haven't added them yet)

Awesome work. Any chance you could post up the reference images for the ANH cockpit interior and instrument cluster you're using? Most of the best references I've been able to find have been for the ESB version.
