1/6 2001 Pod replica.

...and still not accurate:(

But to be fair - as I said a few posts back, you have to cut the guy some slack. The model is pretty good given the information that was publicly available at the time he designed it.

And for a garage resin cast, the moulding looks quite good in those photos - pretty sharp, and free of bubbles.

Now - taking money from people and never shipping product - *that* is inexcusable...

Don't get me started (my own experience with him:mad:) To be fair; his casts were always sharp and clean.

Oops - we have veered a bit off topic from the original subject of the 1:6 desk toy. :) Sorry!

Yes, I did...not accurate by any means. Here's the pics of the thread (I did a search, but without succes:unsure:) Yogybear gave me one of his EVA Pod ear and allowed me to recast it to make the other one, as well as DaveG contributed by giving me his highly accurate STL file for the arms.
Still a work in progress, since I've modified the upper engines (top of the window on the right/left of the model, as well as the trapeze bell at the upper top left).

This may be your original thread for the EVA Pod Joberg:

Beautiful model by the way!

Where can we obtain usable 13" spheres? For $1500, I think I can manage to build my own...and build a cabinet to display it too.

If you're not hung up on studio sized models, which would need 13.5"/342mm, you can easily get 350mm diameter acrylic spheres. That's about 13 3/4". Or 300mm, which is about 11 3/4".

Acrylic is awkward to work with if it is not in tube or sheet form. Maybe domes would work. A sphere is a difficult starting point in acrylic.

For this project, 1/6 scale is simultaneously big and small enough to be ideal. So, 13"~13.5" would be about right.

Sourcing some other plastic might be a better alternative.

Yep, you don't know how many times I cursed the Acrylic Gods cutting that sphere to build that Pod :devil:
It seems that CDS has acrylic sphere (14") for $ 66.94(y)
