I've made some progress.

The fenders are joined back together. I still need to create the rolled lip on the bottom edge.

The white body shell is a very roughly cut 2mm styrene test pull. It took a few goes to eliminate most of the webbing due to the height of the nose and how close it was to the edge of the vacformer bed..

Thanks guys. I've been hard at it this week and haven't really had time for an update.

Here's where I am:

I have vac formed the main body shell in 3mm ABS and have sanded out most of the imperfections from the foam's surface. I have trimmed it to fit over the fenders.

I have done most of the split lines, although I do need to tidy some up a bit. I have also added the raised panel along the side of the car. I still need to do the trunk and hood.

I have also made the centre console and area behind the seats. The dashboard has also been fitted.

Next I am making the windscreen and interior door panels as well as completing the paneling and split lines.

Gary, The board is .31 density RAKU TOOL. (www.ambercomposites.co.uk/Tooling/tooling_01.html) It is just about soft enough to use surforms to achieve the basic shape.

Did some more detailing work:

I've been working on the windscreen frame and wing mirrors today too.

Hi Guys.

Dan, yes I am at Hatfield. Do you know it well?

I made the windshield this week. Again, it was sculpted in polturethane foam. The frame was vac-formed in 3mm ABS and the screen in 1.5mm acrylic. In order to get a really smooth, clear finish on the acrylic I first vacformed some .5mm PVC over the foam and then left it on when I formed the acrylic.

I then test fitted the parts. As you can see, I have added the rolled lip on the edge of the fenders.

Here is a close up of the interior. I still need to make the interior door panels.

And the rear. I have blended the body shell into the rear wheel arch.

I run a model store in Hertford so im just down the road....we sometimes get students from hatfield come over for stuff.

I was a full time model maker for a few years and I used to run into alot of people who went there....I should have gone myself but its not practical now (mortgage to pay for )

Roadsters looking fantastic... do they still have the exhabition at the end of term?? I went to a couple years ago ...if they do I might have to come and take a look at the roadster for real..

Hi guys,
Yep, there is an exhibition at the end of the year. Third years only though - should be plenty of nice stuff. Mine is not until next year.

The rolled lip was just done with a .75mm styrene strip applied around the bottom edge. A radius was then added with body filler. Simple as that.

Yesterday, as my lacquer dried on the car I made the plinth. It is just an MDF box, clad with styrene. I am getting the plaque photo-etched in stainless steel the same time as they etch the radiator grill.

This morning a couple of small runs in the lacquer were sanded out and polished. I opted to have the candy applied by a friend who paints cars and bikes for a living - the very same guy who painted cking's Vader helmets. I think he did a great job - a glass-like automotive finish. The colour is really 'in yer face'. Not sure I'd drive a car like it though

Today I am going to add the wheels and chrome details and start scuplting the interior door trim. I need to fit these before I can add the other interior details. I'll take some more pics tonight once the wheels and windscreen are on and the exterior detailing (minus the grill - that arrives tomorrow) is complete.

My deadline is 4pm Friday. I still need to finish 5 pages of a 40 page report and write a short essay on were my model sits in industry (automotive concept, toy prototyping, sfx miniatures etc) :thumbsdown
