1/48 Star Wars Stage Echo Base Hangar Diorama

Hey Seven. Awesome Dio. Im working on an Echo Base Dio for the 1:43Deago Falcon and looking die this Trooptransporter. Do you have a Link or the DataFile from this Transport?

Sorry 'bout that. I didn't see requests for updates. This diorama has been sitting in my basement collecting dust, unfortunately. Some of the icicles have come unglued and fallen off over time.

Apart from that, not much to report.
@eloven thanks for the design for the doors.

@BigBangBacket unfortunately the transport carrier is undersized. I will have to re-do it for this scale. There are a couple on shapeways that someone else did.

Oh, I did make a little progress. I glued down the first row of landing lights, but ended up not liking how close they were to the center X-Wing, so I re-drilled the holes in the ground (for the LED bulbs) and moved the lights back a bit. Glued more snow down to the floor to help finish off the look, leaving bald spots here and there where I knew the landing gear would need to be placed. I also glued down most of the droids so they are in their permanent positions. Got all my snowspeeders assembled, and three out of four X-wings. I am hesitant to get started painting the ships as my painting skills are terrible. I am really disappointed how my first snowspeeder came out.

I have the plans to 3D print new cockpits for all the X-Wings, so their canopy will be open. The Fine Molds kit has them all molded closed. Apart from that, just need little do-dads here and there to fill the hanger with more life (like people).

Oh and my co-workers wife is a painter, so I have asked her to paint backdrops for my that will go in the X-Wing bays and at the back of the entrance, also like the stage set. Fingers crossed.

This is insane in best possible way:thumbsup . Can you post some owerall photo with something familiar in picture to get the sanse of size of this diorama. I have 1:48 X-wing before me but still can not imagine properly how big this must be.

@seven ,

Thanks for sharing this once again . Hoping you’ll continue to do so , after all , the time and effort you’ve put into this so far ... it’d be a shame not to finish ...:facepalm

You say there’s ‘ not much to report ‘ , but the photos above show different ( least wise from your last ones ! ) . That gantry over the X - wing turned out brilliantly , and the floor lighting modules along with those ‘ walk mats ‘ look spot on .

Sad to hear it’s been gathering dust in the basement all this time , but maybe you’ll get ‘ inspired ‘ somehow and start working on it once more !?

Either way , thanks for this update ;)

:cheersGed

I created a 3D model of the Cannon Sled first (AKA Laser Ice-Cutter, AKA Hover Tank). Took a couple days to fine tune a prototype based in the original blueprints. Shot it with a quick spray of white so the detail would come out. There really isn't that much photo reference of the full scale Cannon Sled. I may add little greeblies later to dress it up. The gun barrel came out a bit crude, at this scale the printing just didn't do well.

Little update on what I have been working on (Just a single teaser photo). All parts are just tape-fitted. Needs lots of sanding and seam filling. Gosh I really hope this thing isn't too big for the diorama...

Sorry for the poor photo quality

I am using the blueprints provided by @maruska & @vfxsup64 (Andre) and scaling it down to fit my diorama (Huge thanks for providing these and the work put into them). Total length will be 22".

I Started with a central core that is slotted along the outside face for each section of the Falcon dome to slide into.

Bracing supports underneath for support and holes to permit wiring (inspired by Haystack Hair's 1/72 Falcon)

All glued in place

Test fitting the Ramp parts and gun turret platform. Needing to sand surface smoother and adding filler for the seam lines. Once paneling begins I am confident tht most seam lines will disappear anyways.

Lastly, I had to see how it was going to fit into the diorama. Ignore it sitting too low as the bottom isn't attached, nor any landing gear that would raise it up off the floor higher.

I went on Elstree Stage 6 the Death Star docking bay, with the Imperial Shuttle, back in February 82, and with the Mine Workings for Temple Of Doom in 83. Yep, that was one heck of a soundstage!

^ that's pretty cool! It's always great to hear from people who where there.

Here is a little something I plan to put Backstage as an item being constructed. I rationalize that perhaps someone thought they may need in on set when shooting the Scene with R2 Scanning for Luke just outside the bay doors in the background...
