1/4 scale ED-209 scratchbuild

Fairly new to the forums and not posted much, probably because I haven't built much lately. I started this ED about 2 yrs ago and after doing a lot of the head build, I shelved it due to other commitments. I didn't take any pics of the intial start to the build because I didn't know of the RPF or other forums like this. I started it back up after seeing some amazing builds on here and thought I would try and show my attempt. Here is the head as I left it and now started again to complete.

I started first by detailing the mouth section.

Here's some more pics. After finishing the general shape and detail of the head, I primed it to check for mistakes.

I then started on the chicken wings as I like to call them. Finding pictures of detail on the underside of these wings is impossible so I have detailed it as I THINK what it would look like.

This is as far as I've got so far. I have just detailed all the grills at the back and I will be building the mount for the legs in the next week or so.

Appoligis for no close up details, my camera isn't the best for this kind of work.

Ooooh, if you could look through your monitor, you would see me grinnin' from ear to ear!

Nice job there. Now finish the model, You have 10 seconds in which to comply...

HOLY SCHNIKES! :eek

That's the most fantastic build I've ever seen done for ED-209, and it's not even finished, lol.

I'm really diggin' the detailing so far, btw. At 1/4 scale, how big is yours going to be once finished?

Ed is one of the coolest robots around. I have 2 and want to build more. You are doing a great job!

This is stellar. Welcome aboard! And please, let that thing accidentally fall into some RTV! :D

That's an amazing bit of work. I'd also love to know how big it's going to be when it's finished - it looks like it could be a monster!

Thanks for all the really nice comments guys, I'm really humbled to hear things like that considering the forum I'm on. :$
Answers to a few questions, the size of Ed will be approx 19" high (50cm) when he's finished. One of the pics has a can of car spray primer at the side of him for comparison. Would love to pose him against an Horizon or Hot Toys model to show difference but I aint got either of them. :unsure
As for selling them, or "falling" into RTV, afraid that is something I cannot see happening. It would cost an absolute fortune for me to buy enough RTV to cast ED and it would take a heck of a lot of resin to fill the mould, unless it was hollow cast. Sorry to disappoint but I can't afford to do it. :(
Any way will update as soon as I get some more done. :thumbsup

There are some very good moldmakers on here as well - some of the best for something like this are found in the studio scale section. The moldmaking and casting work I've seen in that section blows my mind. Just in case that was an option.

But, regardless... it's an awesome build and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Damn, that's sweet.

I've loved the 209 from the first moment it was on screen, and this looks to be like an excellent rendition :thumbsup
