1/24 scale Ralph McQuarrie concept X-Wing scratchbuild

D6,

I think I found Rel's flashlights at my dollar store. They were at the main counter, and were a buck each. I had to ask to find them. They were in a box on the counter standing on end, and were anodized aluminum as opposed to black rubber cased. The LED module pops out of the shell with a little work, and looks fairly simple solder.

One more thing to note. If you test them in the store, they'll appear not to work even though each flashlight ships with batteries. There is a temporary card which needs pulled to complete the circuit.

Rel, I can only hope to be as good as you someday. Not only have you mastered building, but painting and finishing aswell. You made this beast look like it was plucked out of the drawings and even made the finish look as though it was drawn and colored in with charcoals. You're one of the few people who I actually tell people to look at your work or go out of my way to show them your site.

Quit your whining!

it Aint K-MART!

Rich always delivers FAST SERVICE!! No Matter HOW long it Takes!!

Actually Spacemunkie has a point. I ordered an X wing in June, shortly after REL posted his redone body molds. Since then I have been given two different dates that it was supposed to be sent , and having not recieved them in due course ,have e mailed Richard. On returning home today I note in this recent e mail that he says he sent two to one customer and has now handed the molds over to Frank Cerney to complete outstand orders. What he has not done is provided me with any contact details for Frank and no indication as to where I am on the list. It turns out he has said exactly the same to Spacemunkie.
As of this morning I note Starship Modellers have 4 of his X wings to sell which indicates all his preorders have been fullfilled. Given the inconsistency of his previous e mails to both me and Spacemunkie I have asked that he explains it more accurately. I hugely admire his builds and his work in general here on the forum and find this behaviour inexplicably inconsistent with his good reputation.

Yeah Im really hard to find.

I figured everyone was leaving me alone out of courtesy. If I had news, I would post it as I dont have anything yet.

If this goes through, then yes. Ill be producing the kit, and taking care of back orders Im told there is a specific number, and thats what I agreed to.

now for the Good news and bad news:

BAD news: I have to make FRESH molds from the masters. It will take a little time.

GOOD news: I do all my molding and casting, butt-ass naked so I move faster through the air. Less wind resistance ya know.

Brundelfly- I'm sorry but I was not aware of your real name. I asked Richard to clarify who you were , but other than to give me a name I was unaware of your identity in the forum. Richards e mail was brief and completely lacking any detail at all. I am pleased you have added some clarity to the situation.
As regards the model "if" this goes through then I am more than content to wait. Your reputation, as has been Richards, is one of a maker of quality kits who delivers. I am more than content to wait for such a casting, when you can confirm that you will be making the X wing.
I had no intention of dragging anyone into any kind of an argument. I would point out that Spacemunkie got a reasonable kicking from people for his pretty reserved posts. Considering everyone was getting their kits very swiftly and Richard said in his post updates that he'd nearly finished the run. Having ordered in June I contacted Spacemunkie and asked him to wait to see if the problem was resolved a few weeks ago, and requested him not to post again until we compared the notifications from Richard. This was by far the fairest thing to do.
However,it is pretty annoying that, having been told your kit is in the post twice, then that somebody got two, one of which is mine presumably , then to also hear that "I'm sorry I'm not casting this any more", and then to see there are four for sale at Starship modellers, it is pushing it a bit . Presumably if Richard refunds both me and Spacemunkie our monies this week I can buy one immediately from SM and I shall not have to wait at all for the new molds. Every kit I've had from there has been here in less than three weeks.
What could be more reasonable than that?

Cut,

I hear you.
I appreciate your comments. I do.

I have been making kits, in some form or another, for about 15 years.
I have blown off every limb stepping on my own Landmines.

I understand the pitfalls of garage kit making, and have worked very hard to keep the tiny rep I have.

I just spoke to Rich, and now that the cat is out of the bag, so to speak I can discuss whats going on.

He has masters packed and I expect a tracking number shortly.
So when I get everything, Ill make a nice set of molds, and bang out the back orders.
You WILL see one or two hit ebay, so I can cover my costs and shipping
for the significant number of back orders. Thats what Rich and I worked out. Kit is now mine to produce, and I cover the back log.

Once I do that, I sell them as we have done with other stuff.
Im clearing my plate in anticipation of the arrival of these parts. Which means by the end of this week, there are alot of happy XWING PYRO people.

Frank
Ralphie back order folks, email me please:
frankkcerney@yahoo.com

Brothers and Sisters..... Stop buggin Rich, Ill run with this football as soon as I catch it.

Rich could sit down and fill all those orders himself, he chooses
not to for his own personal reasons. If he made them and cast them
he can surly fill the orders.

When you buy a house they tell you right there your
mortgage will be bought out, and for the most part many times
as you pay on it. I never thought the GK business was in this
practice as well! But I see it more and more often maybe if this
is to be the trend people should be told up front?

And your very bold you should not tell people "Stop buggin Rich"
Why do you think you can tell people what to do? Because you have come to the rescue? I dont buy kits in this hobby but I see what goes on, while I
am making my own models.

So i wonder if your a great friend of Rich who is coming to help
him out that would be awesome!:thumbsup Or if your putting money in your pocket which helps re-inforce the latest trend in the GK end of the hobby?

P.S. Don't think I am a knuckle head who is afraid of you,
or will back down from what I said here! You can't do a thing
for me or to me!

And yes I am friends with Rich, but he cant do
anything for me or to me either! Sometimes friends
say things you don't want to hear!

I think the garage kit end is a great thing,it provides
a great avenue for people who can't build their own
models the opportunity to have subjects that are never
going to be available!

That doesn't mean they should be held hostage by this
though. The consumers in the GK end of it should realize
they make things go around......not the kitters! When that
happens everything will be smoother!

This whole side of it goes around unsanctioned there
are no guide lines rules or regulations......let's face it!
The consumer here is always laying out cash and trust
first for the most part!

Sometimes to make things go easier, you have to make things harder!
Ask for your money back and go to SSM and buy it, at least when you hit
the buy button you know there is one waiting for you!

Now I'm getting upset.

Richard,
On Sept. 3 you told me, "I'm getting the rest of the casts finished this weekend. It will ship out right after labor day positively."

Well that didn't happen. Now I understand Frank is going to take over but has to make new molds. What happend to the fresh molds you told me you were using on Aug 2?
I paid for my kit on May 23, and I have only asked for updates twice since then. I say I have been patient and understanding, but now, I can't help but wonder if I really will get a kit, If I am how much longer do I have to wait? One week? 5 more months?
