Dakota_in_the_sky over at the SSM sent me this wonderful kit he had commissioned. My first impressions out of the box are that it is a very simple, yet very well cast little kit. No bubbles that I could find, nice crisp detail and the two halves of the fuselage, with no cleaning up, match together perfectly.

This thing will look awesome next to my X-Wing. The only thing I think could be done better is casting the engines, cockpit bucket and instruments in clear resin to allow lighting. Other than that I can't say a bad thing about it, and I believe this kit is well worth your time.

NOW ONTO THE PICS.....

Glad to see these are shipping, I'll be keeping an eye on my mailbox.

Can you post a pic of the canopy or fuselage next to one of your SS X-Wings?

Yeah I can pull the X-Wing down really quick.

Here is a comparison to my X-Wing

Far from Studio Scale. It's in scale with other Studio Scale ships ie 1/24 Xwing so this thread might be better suited for the general modeling forum. Looks like a great model but not the 15 inches wide, 23.6 inches long and 8.6 inches tall needed to be considered studio scale. The SS A wing was gigantic.

Looks like a clean casting and a great job but my 2 cents itÂ’s not studio scale.

Quite right Steve :p I adjusted the title to Not Quite Studio Scale, LOL Just so everyone knows, I am not pushing this kit, and I am not selling it personally, I just think it is a really neat, simple kit that will match perfectly with my X-Wing and should be a BREEZE to build.

It's an Alfred Wong creation, correct?

Correct

So this one is different the A-wing SMT did a few years ago?
I thought the SMT was based off of and the same size as the Ertl kit.

Yes this is a brand new model, NOT the same as the SMT. The SMT was 1/48 I believe.

What's the overall length on the A wing model, JDH? The 'actual' size of the A wing is often disputed, and I was curious what the size of this kit was.

I think the original "studio scale" scaled out to 1/12, so this would be about 1/2 scale of the studio. Looks to be about the same size as the hasbro(ken) toy from the POTF line.

Nice kit and what looks like nice clean castings though. A heck of a lot easier to clean up than the raised panel lines that are on the toy, though most of the general shape of the toy was spot on. (I know, I have one "in a box" that I've been working on off and on for awhile, seeing this makes me want to take it out of the box and start it up again . . .)

JDH, post some buildup pics when you get 'er done.

Nice pics. I've been in line for one of those for a month or more. I can hardly wait to hear from him.
