1/24 Raptor - Initial Comments

I know Jades put his info on the Raptor he received from Jesse, so I thought I'd add my input as well. I'm just getting to unpacking and cleaning everything, but thought I'd give those anxious for this kit my first impressions:

PACKAGING - Superb.. Everything was neatly wrapped and packaged, no damage at all (and there are a lot of parts)

FLASH/PIECES - Almost all of these parts are superbly cast, and very little flash exists. Cleanup is going to be a breeze. There are numerous 'clear' resin parts, and everthing is just superbly detailed. Ohh, and the Canopy ---- WOW.. Very nice Jesse... The 'bubble' looks just right.

INSTRUCTIONS/REFERENCE - On the CD, you'll get about 80 reference pics, ranging from inside, outside, and CGI. Looks like everything you need is nicely bundled. The instructions are all photographic. He labels all the parts, then has 'pages' that show exactly where everything goes. Perhaps one of the nicest looking instructions I've seen for a kit of this magnitude. I'll know more about how easy they are to follow once construction begins.

VALUE - Well, I've done several of these resin kits, and for the amount of pieces/parts and effort that went into this, it's my opinion this kit is a Bargain.. It WILL meet your expectations.

I hope to begin construction next week, but expect this to take a while to get together. I know Jesse is looking for quick feedback, and he'll get it, but we don't want to rush this beauty either. At first glance, this thing gets a 10+ rating from me. I look forward to putting her together.

Here's a few reference pics of the Parts Breakdown from my kit.

I'll begin a new page on my website soon to document the construction.
As always, other BSG buildups and stuff can be viewed at my site:

I have some pretty good ideas for the lighting so far Sean. Do you plan to light her up?

Very good to hear. I hope that this kit is really well received. Jesse put his heart and soul (and more than a few $$$) into this one. Late night pouring molds is no fun... but he does it for the love of the hobby. Great job.

PM Jestefarean for details.

If you don't mind, what kind of damage are we talking about, price wise? The model looks fantastic.

Greg,
RE: Lighting, I'm not gonna do it on this one, perhaps on the second one. I'm still finalizing the lighting system for Wolvster's Giant BaseStar, and I just don't have the time to figure out lighting on this beauty right now with my schedule.

However, I think using small white LED's would work out just fine in the Raptor, and maybe better yet, some light sheet right in behind the clear panels would do wonders.

Good luck..

LOL...Hi all...thanks for the review Sean...its very kind.

For those waiting for a reply, and concerned for me...well, I'm alive...just not well. While in the process of redoing my bathroom my kids came down with the flu. Just as they were getting better I picked it up. Ive spent most of the last 5 days sleeping a lot...and I'm still short a fully working bathroom. DOH.

Anyways...think Im starting to get over it...even threw some raptor parts in the pressure tank this morning. Ill try to get to emails and pms tonight.

Cheers
