1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build. Now Painting V2

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

It looks fantastic mate, you've done a stellar job on this so far, I'm loving the recessed area, & will def be tackling this my self now. Very inspired

Thanks. I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

I think you´ve already done so much that it would be a shame if you wouldn´t also increase and detail the opening in the wing´s rear edge. Or you could close it completely as on the filming miniature with the orange circles... Just don´t leave it as it is!:lol

I knew that you were going to say that. :lol

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I'm going to take a break from the wing for right now. After all the work that I've done on it so far, I'm a bit scared to start cutting into it again out of fear of ruining it.

Anyhow, I figured that I need a change of pace on this build so I started checking my LEDs.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Keep up all the work cant wait to see it !!!!:thumbsup

Thanks.

A few more updates.

I drilled some holes in the back cockpit wall for the fiber-optics to run through.

IMGP0498.jpg

Then I made holes in the part that runs through the collar to match the ones I made in the above part.

IMGP0502.jpg

IMGP0504.jpg

Then I put part of the cockpit together, made some holes for the fiber-optics, and primed it up dark grey.

IMGP0556.jpg

Next, after mocking this thing up this weekend, I figured that the brass rod that I ran through the center part would not be strong enough, so I drilled a larger whole, and put a steel rod in there.

IMGP0528.jpg

Then I drilled into the main wing for the support rod.

IMGP0533.jpg

The battery and switch for the fiber-optics fit into the rear cone.

IMGP0534-1.jpg

And the cone fits onto the back support plate.

IMGP0541.jpg

All the lower guns that I scratchbuilt sitting in thier support structure.

IMGP0549.jpg

And that part in its proper place (which I redid the rivet holes on).

IMGP0554.jpg

And part of it mocked up this weekend from borrowing parts from kits.

IMGP0525.jpg

This thing is frakking huge.

I was messing with the LEDs for the engines last night and I did not think that they were bright enough, so I ordered some different ones.

Well, that's all I have for now.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

A super slow build it may be but the results are brilliant. The finished model shouls be stunning.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

That looks great! It´s the first rewarding moment when you mock it up the first time. Can´t wait to see where you´ll take this build.

I want those guns...:lol And your knowledge about electronics. ;) BTW, have you ever wondered, those detail pieces on the main gun pod, why are there 3 such parts on one side but only 2 on the other? There should be three on both sides...:unsure

Fantastic work, looks great.

Thanks guys! :) I'm hoping that when people get thier kits that Darth Daniel's thread and this thread may help them if they want to mod some parts.

When I mocked this thing up, my jaw nearly dropped at the scale of this thing. I had been pulling parts for it, but had no idea. When I felt how heavy the thing was, I knew I needed to add some more support from the main wing to the secondary wing.

I just winged the guns. I've never scratched anything before this project. As for the electronics, I'm just grabbing what info that I can from where I can. Never lit up a kit before that wasn't pre-wired. It's all trial and error at this pont, I hope it works. :lol

Now I'm going to have to look at the gun pod details when I get home. :unsure

Oops...:confused Sorry for pointing it out.
:lol But I guess if you have the gun pod molds you could easily cast just one of those small details for yourself.

Have a look at the part that´s attached to the gunpod´s underside, its dimensions are way off, it should not sit in the middle and there´s a flat angled part sitting next to it that´s missing, I scratched this on mine (see my thread). If you want to go that route...it´s really very easy.

Maybe I should add that the whole gunpod is wrong (not wide enough, and the protruding panel and geometry around it is wrong as well). So it will be impossible to get this area to look completely right.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I noticed that it was way too thin when I wanted to scratch all the smaller guns that go into it. I would love to scratch them, but there is nowhere to put them. :lol

You were correct and I added another part. I cut it off a part that could not be fixed. As for the other stuff you pointed out, I am not allowed to look until we get back from a short getaway to San Francisco on Monday. Strict orders from the fiance. :lol

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I finished to lower guns. I built three smaller guns, as well as used real wire for the wiring details, and added some more detail to the gun pod that was missing.

And here it is all primed up.

I also added the rivet details to the rear cone.

That looks outstanding!!!:thumbsup
Thank you!!!

This model is heavy so I added some more support. I think that I overkilled it and perhaps should have stopped with two support rods (remember that there is one in the middle as well)...Oh well. :confused

I don't think that this thing is going to bend anywhere. :)

But I did drop it and now I have to fix it. I do have the molds, but I will fix this part and keep it. I've done a lot of work to this part just to toss it to the side. Besides...what if I didn't have the mold?

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Join the club mate, I think I've dropped every model I've ever built, so many smashed bits its ridiculous. You & Daniel are both setting the bar for these kits, I still cant believe that only mine has been seen painted yet, there must be another one somewhere?

It totally sucks that I dropped it. Random cuss words were coming out of my mouth. :lol

I can't wait to get paint on this thing, but that probably won't happen until next month. You set the bar for the paint super high.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

Fixed the part that I messed up when I dropped it.:hammer: But I hear that I am in good company dropping models. :)

I put two places for a panivise to connect to this model and added two parts to the main wing.

IMGP0604.jpg

IMGP0600.jpg

Then I added another part (no glue) just to see where I was at in the build.

IMGP0605.jpg

IMGP0602.jpg

I'm in the middle of some more parts, but no pics yet.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I cut up the cowls and may have come up with a way to help the people that will be building this ship...if they want to light it up.

The little part on the top can be provided to you. Shoot me a pm if you want it.

Re: 1/24 B-Wing. A super slow build.

I got the idea to cut through that part from DD here on the RPF. He somehow managed to do it where he didn't have to rebuild anything on it. I on the other hand, seem to destroy things without even tyring. :lol So I figured if I had to rebuild, maybe somebody else would need to as well so I'm having Robert cast that little part so all somebody needs is styrene to rebuild it.

I'm going to try and hold the whole top part on with magnets. DD, have you figured out the magnet thing yet?
