Jason!
Holy Crap, that looks FANTASTIC!! Just amazing. You just continue to knock this baby out of the ballpark!! Great job!(y)thumbsup(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Keep up the amazing work, this is gonna be THE display at WF!

I'd also be curious on what materials you used for the Pan Am and signs. Is that the Epson Backlight Film?

+1 , looks great Jason, i am also very interested in how you made those signs. I need to make a small backlite LCARs graphic for a phaser rifle. Those look great.

Now the rest of us have to be THIS good :angry

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Thanks guys! It's .20 styrene with theater/photography gel material welded together with Plastruct adhesive. Over that, superglued acetate from a Konica/Minolta laerprinter/copier... I printed the graphics in black and white onto the acetate... the richness of the color is from the gels. Styrene gives the even opacity I wanted... and the one graphic with multiple colors is made by omitting the gel, so it's just styrene with acetate superglued down - colors are hand painted with Tamiya "clear" red and blue paints. Now that it's set, I'll scratch the red away a little to get sharper edges, but it needed to "blob" on initially for a rich even tone.

.020 styrene? Anyway... it's super ghetto, but oddly fitting.

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

If im not wrong, I think this might be the most lighted model there is. As far as movie replicated subjects go.

That's one busy blimp.

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

I have really been looking forward to seeing the unlit ads go on. Just a great model from subject to execution.

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

That'll happen very soon... probably this weekend!

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

I think you've got a legitimate claim to putting your initials on it :lol

So you superglued those little transparencies onto the plastic stock? And it didn't cause any ... white frostiness?

So she's basically painted now? Just needs decals and weathering?

And what's your source for all the surface decals? Did you get scans of the ID'ed ones from AllThatBR?

... As a side note, since you could potentially run anything through the LCD displays, you could show edited footage of the blimp from from the film on the blimp. :lol

So, you've already made arrangements to dim the lights in the exhibit hall and fill it with smoke, right?
