Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

It looks like you may have succeeded. That blimp is all sorts of cool too.

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Hopefully the cat's not thinking "wow, he's building me this huge cat toy!"

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Hey where did you have that servo control rig Rp'd.

Looks nice, curious what type of 3D Printer and what type of material?
(or was in CNC milled? )

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Lightbenders did it for me - no idea!
Just paid the man :)

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Amazing work on this. So nice to see something that hasn't been done before and uber challenging to boot.

Is this a commision piece or for your own collection?

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Both! Commission build and one for meeeeee

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Laid 40 feet of EL wire, and built the rear gondola!

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Nice!

What did you glue the wire to the backing with? Any tricks on getting an clean, even spacing?

That might a solution for a project of mine.

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Superglue, and Bourbon for the steady hands ;)

It took almost 5 hours... and they're not perfect, but the Blimp is supposed to be a little "off" and nasty any way. Will fill in the gaps with fiber optic strands!

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Actually a nice way to run lines like those is to use a piece of wire in between the strands in the thickness you're wanting to act as a spacer... But like you said a hand-laid look gives it more character!

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Man!!!!This blimp is gonna be one of the most original builds ever!!
Unbelievable work Jason!:thumbsup

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

That is so cool! I am very happy to see the progress finally getting good. Congrats so far!

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Apologies if I missed it in the thread, but do we have a scale for this thing? How big is it supposed to be? You can't really get a sense of scale in the movie.

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Looking great Jason! Loving it.

Yeah, good question about the scale. I don't think it was ever supposed to be specific. Just "blimp" size-ish - that's what I'd say about the scale. :)

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

Well, the original version was definitely 1/35th... but when it was revised, I think it was made much larger. Judging by the gondola, maybe 1/72nd or HO scale? Maaaaybe larger?

Re: 1/2 studio scale Offworld Blimp - MOVING AHEAD!

If that's 1/72, and the envelope on that model is what, two and a half feet long... that would make the real thing the best part of two hundred feet long.

That's quite an alarming thing to have swooping low over such a crowded city. But then, as has been pointed out, the offworld blimp is a rather alarming thing, from many perspectives...
