1:1 Indiana Jones In-Progress

With your dedication to this project the final result will be fantastic and well worth it. Really like your paint work, the tones are looking very lifelike and the whole thing will really come together when you install the glass eyes and complete the hair mission.
Great stuff :thumbsup

I just checked back here for the first time in a long time - the paintjob looks great!!! Excellent work!

If you're willing to go to the lengths of gluing stubble in hair by hair, I have to recommend doing that for those eyebrows as well! Less work than the beard, and at least as important! I've tried what you've done with the mesh appliances - there's no way to avoid that "caterpillar" look as you've described it. Gluing in the separate eyebrow hairs will allow you not only to make them thinner and lighter, but also to gradually blend them into the face. Take a look at how far around your eye sockets your eyebrows actually go, although very sparsely or with lighter-colored hair. You'll never get that gradual diffusion with one solid chunk...

Excellent work so far! I can't wait to see this one done!

Doug I agree completely on the eyebrows... I think even penciling them in may have been better than what I have. Problem is I used CA glue to affix the apppliance, and if I yank if off, I'll have white resin all over again... :unsure

I suppose I could repaint and try to blend the colors so there will be minimal "scarring", then reapproach the brows. We'll see. I'm also hoping than in the grand scheme of things (when it's all complete) the brows won't be as much in focus.

Could you maybe try cutting them off with an exacto? Maybe that would allow you to slice right through the dried cyanoacrylite without digging into your paint...

Someone's comments earlier really nailed this - the even tones are making this thing! No red lips, nice tan complexion. That's what makes the difference between Han and Indy, and between fake-looking and natural. Looking forward to more pics!

ROB!!! You can't leave us hangin like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATES!!!

Brad

Rob,

Try soaking the eyebrow area with acetone (found in nail polish remover). Pour some into a rag, then hold the rag on the eyebrow and let it soak in. It may take some time, but you'll eventually disolve the CA without affecting the paint underneath.

It's looking good Rob. Be careful with acetone, it will eat through paint. I use it to clean my airbrush to get all the dried up paint out of it.It is pretty strong stuff.

Really? That's odd, I've used acetone to clean up dried CA blobs on painted models all the time with no problem. What kind of paints are you using? I use Tamiya acrylics for 99.99% of my painting.

Brad, still hanging in there. Not a TRUE holding patern but sort of. Stuck on the beard - analysis paralysis and fear of effing it up. Plus waiting on the eyes.

Eyes and beard will pretty much finish up the bust, and the bust has to be finished before moving forward with the body (upper back/traps to be exact).

Tamiya is known to be pretty damn bullet-proof once cured; even to alcohol (unless it's a fifth of Jack combined with sandpaper).

Are the brows really so heavy as to need an overhaul? I was thinking about plucking just a few more hairs out near the outside ends and going with it.

Learned today that the sister or a friend creates hair appliances for folks with hair loss

She takes a mold of the person's scalp and creates a punched-hair appliance based on a silicon backing. Or, as I interpreted it, like a super thin scalp portion of a silicon-cast bust.

Anyone heard of this?

It caught my attention because I'd thought of trying to paint on a few layers of liquid latex over the beard area, allowing it to cure, then pulling it off to punch hair into...

love to hear opinions on either of these techniques.

Rob, have you considered just going the 5 o'clock shadow route? All you'd need then is a sharp pencil and some time.

It'll look like he's been out of the office for a day or so (depending on his hair-growth rate), but not like he just stepped out of the shower. Plus, it'll be a hell of a lot easier than creating facial appliances. You can stipple on as much or as little shadow as you think is necessary and it's really easy to add or remove at any givin time.

Yup... That's the back-up, default route. And looking more and more promising!

here are a couple more fun shots. They're from a few days back, but show the paint as it really is...

I call this one Frank-N-Ford (the screws are for the wig to hook onto)

And this one is Hairy-son Ford... (I'm here all week. Try the veal. Tip your waitress).

Wow :confused

Rob??? What ever happened to this project? Did your Adult ADD set in again?

Updates!!!! PLEASE!!!

Brad

Did your Adult ADD set in again?

Set in again!? Never really left...! ;)

Number of factors...

Project is still a "Go" but currently on "Pause".

-Took a two week vacation in late June
-Focusing on some home improvement projects I gotta get done
-Sort of messed up ont the eyes (drilled out too much resin) making it look odd and decreased my motivation

And finally...

Two heads are better than one! ;)

Drop me a PM, Brad; we can swap numbers, shoot the bull on it more...

Wow, nice work with the paintjob... definitely one of the best-looking resin busts I've ever seen :thumbsup

And if you squint a lil' bit then I reckon that wig would be a GREAT starting point for an ANH-era Han Solo display :)
..... just think, if you went down that route, then you wouldn't have to worry about the bleedin' stubble! LOL

Cheers,
John

this shows just how the real hair makes all the difference in busts.

your putting so much effort into this it deserves the hair.

(y)thumbsup

For some random reason, I was curious if this thread still existed...

All right, you all - that's it. Back to work. No updates.
