“There and Back Again; A Mystery Chunk Tale”

Someone non-chalantly dropped in the V2 thread proper some years back that the V2 lever was called "a boot clamp" and was never heard from again. I don't know why but that's always stuck with me.

So the problem I have with a "clamp lever" of any kind (including one for a boot clamp) is that the underside is rounded and does not allow for a fixed ledge on the clamped position like a Graflex clamp lever does. Instead; it seems to actually have a rounded area.

so at risk of opening the can of worms, I feel it is more like the lever for some kind of release valve. Something like you'd find on a T&P valve or a super small compressor. It's meant to be pushed down I think as an actuator.

Ayeee... this is a mystery chunk thread!!!

Amazing find, well done to everyone involved! Fasinating that it was under the upper classes boot in the middle of a lake this whole time.

Awesome find! How many studs are on a boot?

Also, who's going to be displaying a welly with their lightsaber collection? :p

This is such an awesome discovery!
Great work. Little pieces like this can be a real pain to identify.

My personal observations after learning about this...
These boots are fairly common, although sometimes expensive. I noted 30 pairs in the past 90 days on eBay with an average price of £80 (condition of the studs vary a lot between the used and NOS).
There are typically 23 studs per boot, 46 per pair.
It's nice that everyone should be able to easily get a real piece for a change. :)

Wading Boot studs!! Who woulda thought!? Great work, and love the research. Like many other enthusiasts here, I remember spending hours thinking and trying to imagine what this thing would be on. Like Danny I thought it was some sort of button honestly. I'll definitely stay in the loop on this thread! Great video interview scottjua ! Ill be on the lookout now for sure. Imagine how many there are at Goodwill and garage sales! If I come across any i'll be coming here first! Now all we've got left for the V2 is the clamp card I believe, right?

Amazing work BRRogers. That's really awesome. Now to just wait until another pair pops up so I can nab one for my build.

Amazing work! Such a joy to see these things revealed, although I'm kinda sad that we're going to have to retire the "mystery chunk" nomenclature for boot stud. Looking forward to the next puzzle you set out to solve!

Also here’s another bunker bomb picture from the most recent Prop Auction for anyone who wants it! Looks like they were attached up top then painted. Man who knew this stuff was right under our noses this whole time!
