£10 IKEA Helmet Stand / SS Scale Model base idea!

Here's a cheap helmet stand idea and as it's just an IKEA should be available worldwide!

The floor standing lamp that I used has the odd name of NOT was under £4, has a hefty weight in the base so is extremly stable and comes with a painted black or grey finish. There's also a brushed steel finished one for about £7.

You could use anything to pad out the top, a bundle of bubble wrap tapped to the top would work but here I've used an expanded polystyrene head I picked up on ebay for about £6.

The lamp comes in about four sections, all you need to do is screw the first pole section onto the base and impale the head on and your ready to role. :thumbsup

Here's some Pics courtesy of WackyChimp.

Almost forgot I've used one of the brushed steel ones for a Salzo X-wing base. It's very stable and you can use a couple of the pole sections to have your model at a decent height while stood on the floor or just use one polesection for display on a table, I,ll add some pics soon :lol.

Thanks for the heads up. I have 2 that I was getting ready to throw out. My Wife is going to say " Let me guess. You got that idea from the RPF.":lol

That's brilliant!!! I was looking for exactly something like this for my Vader ROTS helmet and thought i'd have to make one.....

Cheers!!

Sweet! That's a nice little tip. I have used Mike stands and the like before, but this is probably the least expensive, by far. Plus, you could still use the light fixture if you wanted to hang it or something!

Thats a great idea, thanks. For those Australians here - IKEA Australia sells that lamp for $19. Yep. You can pretty much double the cost of any IKEA item after you have done the currency exchange if you are buying it down under. And add a few dollars just for the fun of it.

Banana stands / banana holders of various types are also a useful option for some helmets and models.

Nice idea..we have just had an ikea open up here recently so gona check it out. But the prices are not just direct conversion..they add alot more...grrr.

For those without an ikea..this is what i do when stuck. A metal table leg for a few euro in a DIY shop and a piece of wood...

Thanks for the comments, never thought this was an original idea but I looked through old posts and there was no mention of these.
Just wanted to share, thats what forums are all about.

Cheers Andy.

the kitchen roll stands work pretty well, but I like how big that Ikea stand base is, would be cool for one of those special items in your collection :)

excellent idea. I use the lamp stands for my name plate displays for my full size figures. I like what you've done with them. I use textured black paper towel holders for my helmet stands. I get those from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Dave :)
