Hi folks,
I haven't posted anything on here for a year or so - sorry about that, I've mostly been building non-movie stuff like a couple of Gundams and a big WH40K display which I wasn't sure was really relevant.
But lately I wanted something else to do after finishing the diorama and picked...
Nice model, the way you've lit and shot it fits with the originals very well although your starfield could maybe do with fewer of the big coloured stars?
Also: While the original series of Star Trek (as a reflection of the society of the time) had issues with sexism, I think it's rather more...
Take this with a massive pinch of salt since I'm a complete beginner, but I found it was very helpful to make paper mock-ups - a wide roll of kitchen paper is a cheap option although it's hard to mark. Lots of fitting sessions too.
I used to make things out of paper when I was kid and have done...
Thanks for the kind comments, sorry I've been a bit slow to respond - being doing poster designs in my spare time for the model club's expo next year.
Also I may have made a small Gundam...

If you've got something where the wrinkles come out over time and it's relatively thin, you might be able to bond it to fusible interfacing and then do fallimar's iron trick - that stuff will hold wrinkles really well because the adhesive melts and re-sets.

Thanks all, very kind of you. Still hoping the Embassy will post the pics from their pro photographer.
Footnote on the chrome paint - it seems to tarnish a bit from skin oils - the gun was fine in my gloved hands but looked a bit blotchy after other people had a go with it. Will try and buff it...
My test spoon indeed showed that this paint doesn't like being sealed. It wasn't ugly, but it was like a car paint (metal flake under lacquer) surface rather than a metal surface. So it's just the bare "metal". I did manage to CA and sand the handle seams yesterday morning, so it looks like it's...
Yeah that's true - especially with my rush-job dry times meaning it'll be unlikely to have completely outgassed - lots of potential for crazing. I've painted a spoon along with the other half of the gun this morning so I have a test case.
I could very likely seal it with Klear or other acrylic...
Good to hear, thanks :)
have done the gun handle, more-or-less, after some dithering. I got some 30mm pine dowel and drilled out one end to ~16mm for the broken peg on the front bit (now cleaned up and whittled to fit.) I sanded a saddle into another piece of dowel and glued and screwed the...
I finished the head of the gun (no handle yet!) and painted it as a test with Plastikote "Brilliant Metallic Silver". Wow, totally exceeded my expectations, such that I might go and get the gold to re-do the belt pieces with.
WITNESS ME!
Now to make and paint the handle and sew the belts...
I'm pretty sure that cat is saying "Great Scott!"
I really like how the shaping and placement of the foam legs gives you the effect of the high ankle cat leg (don't know the technical term) without stilts. At least I assume your feet are actually flat on the floor in that picture?

Thanks for the tip, but I wanted to avoid altering the boots permanently. Although from testing last night it looks like just velcro-ing the tops around our ankles will be enough - they didn't seem to drift. (All the other velcro is sewn in, it was just the boots I didn't want to mar.)

That's great, especially the fabulous shoes - doing a detail obsessed homage to a Wes Anderson movie seems entirely fitting! Do you have a red beanie?
One of these days I must make a model of the Belafonte - there's a new Ton-class minesweeper coming out in 1/350 scale...
