I know your post is aging, but if the photos are of an original from the series it almost looks like sun faded or aged piping. Pendragon Costumes still makes this coat and they've replaced that trim with leather to match the main part of the shoulders and sleeves.

I know this is an old photo, but for a long time this one question has really made me wonder. What was the metallic material that was used for the segmented side of the support column for these control panels? Looks to be the same used on the leviathan hallway columns as well.
