This is probably a dumb question, but how do you wear foam armor. I made some shin guards and they were kept on by straps and buckles. But with a lot of armor it is made as a complete piece. For example a lot of the Iron Man suits I see. Do they just slide on? I'd love to see a video of someone...
What is the best tool to use to cut EVA foam? In my recent project I used a standard cutting knife that I got at Harbor Freight, but I am wondering what most of the seasoned veterans are using. Any thoughts on a hot knife? Even though I tried I didn't seem to get straight cuts. They always...
For the pants I wore black leather pants that I had from my Eric Draven (The Crow) costume.
I intended to wear a pair of black boots that I had, but I neglected to account for the additional width of the boots when I calculated the straps on the shin guards and as a result I couldn't wear the...
Thanks! You'd be amazed at how well received a budget Vader can be. Even though I know how far off I am from a "good" Vader costume, I still got a ton of compliments. And that's always appreciated when you put that much effort into something.
Any pics in particular?
Thanks James!
First I'd like to thank the many of you that have contributed valuable information to this site that I was able to leverage to help me create this costume. One member in particular I'd like to thank is kyxz2. I learned a lot while working on this project that I will put to good use on my next...
Here is the solder I used:
High-Tech Rosin-Core Solder (1.5 Oz.) - RadioShack.com
And I used a 30-watt cheap soldering iron. Couldn't find the link for it.
I could have used on of those tools that holds wires for you while you solder. Not sure what they are called. Can someone point me in the...
I'm thinking you probably need to get rid of the inverter. You could put your own switch in there so you can turn everything on and off easily. My battery pack has a built in switch.
I don't know anything about the wire glue, but I'm gonna say that I think soldering is what needs to be done...
The LEDs really were simple to work with. The hardest part for me was learning how to correctly solder wires to them so I could connect all the cut strips together.
Once I had that squared away there was nothing to it. Just had to make sure you have all your positive and negative wires...
I love the brightness of the LEDs, but the bulkiness is what bothers me. Did you see my pics of the light panels I constructed. My suit is not uncomfortable to wear, but there is something I like about the flatness of the light panels you can construct with EL wire.
Although aoifrost's use of...
Cool. Yeah, I am looking to start my second Tron costume and am thinking I might try EL wire this time. I'd be interested to see how you put together the lighted sections and then attached them to the costume and each other, etc. I want to see under the hood and check out the engine.
Thanks!
