Studio Scale Stop Motion King Kong Puppet

Being a huge fan of the 1933 film, I challenged myself to build an 18” recreation of the ‘Long Face’ Kong model that Peter Jackson now owns. I’m on a bit of a budget, so the armature is aluminium wire, with a resin cast skull (from a clay sculpture based on the original metal skull). The face...

Talos from "Jason and the Argonauts"

With Scotland sitting in another three week lockdown, I thought I'd keep myself busy with another project. With 2020 marking Ray Harryhausen's Centenary, I decided to pay tribute to an iconic stop motion character! Made with scrap wood and sculpted with Milliput epoxy putty in my garage...

Commando Cody Helmet (Rocketman) Movie Serial

He Blaxmyth! It's been a long time since I was back on this forum, been really busy! Is there any chance you can reupload those PDFs? I'd like to give this another stab, now that I have time! Cheers!

    Stop Motion Cyclops Creature Puppet

Almost finished this 1/6 scale stop motion Cyclops puppet for a personal short film project. Fully articulated with a ball and socket armature (from Malvern Armatures) and cast in expanding polyurethane foam with an outer latex skin from a sculpture moulded in plaster. Details like the horns and...

    King Kong 1933

Cool! So will the jaw be able to move, or is just a solid head with one expression?

    King Kong 1933

So are you making the face in resin?

    King Kong 1933

Look forward to it! Last year I managed to buy a resin skull casting from the Bob Burns Kong armature. It's only till you see it in person, you realise how big the models actually were. Must have been quite cumbersome to animate with back in 1933. Same with the 'Joe Young' models, pretty big for...

    Stop Motion Dinosaur (Harryhausen Style)

Longer version of previous upload. Still problems with lighting, but this is still the test stages. Enjoyed animating the mini figure of myself! Forgot to add audio, but again this is merely a test video. The reason for the cuts is for insert close ups in between.

    Stop Motion Dinosaur (Harryhausen Style)

Thanks for the positive feedback! Another test inspired by Harryhausen's 'Dynamation' process I animated and composited today.

    Stop Motion Dinosaur (Harryhausen Style)

Thanks for the positive feedback! I am a budding stop motion animator/model maker and the work of Ray Harryhausen has been my greatest inspiration.
