Star Wars Credits and Coinage - References and Recreation

If you’re going for a highly polished finish you want to mix roughly 2 parts metal powder to one part resin. At this ratio it won’t be at all pourable, it’s more like a paste that you have to smear into the mould being really careful to avoid bubbles. It’s still possible to get fairly good...

Star Wars Credits and Coinage - References and Recreation

Generally when cold casting I would always mix the resin with metal powder as it provides not only a metallic look but also a realistic feel and weight. Also if you’ve only dusted it’s REALLY easy to accidentally buff through the powder and expose the resin underneath, especially if you’re going...

Star Wars Credits and Coinage - References and Recreation

Actually that’s exactly what we did for the movie. I should know because I had to cold cast a whole bunch of them! I think we did copper, brass and aluminium versions of all the metal tokens. The resin we use for coldcasting is just general purpose polyester fibreglassing resin with a ratio of...

    PropShop announces TFA Props!

From what I understand, Anovos has the sole license for WEARABLE stuff. Propshop weren't allowed to market any of the helmets as wearable; obviously they made them wearable but what you're buying as far as advertising and licensing is concerned is strictly a display piece. I'd imagine eFX is a...

    PropShop announces TFA Props!

Yes. I'm NDA'd, but what you've been told is definitely not 100% accurate.

    PropShop announces TFA Props!

I'm not going to comment on the reasons Propshop closed down as the dust is still settling, although rest assured it had little to do with these replicas. I'm definitely not going to come on here and defend James Enright, as trust me when I say nobody has been screwed over in this situation...

    PropShop announces TFA Props!

Actually, the Propshop Kylo helmets are polyurethane resin casts so they won't be disintegrating any time soon. The only 3D printed part is the chrome face pattern which is printed in durable SLA plastic and then chrome plated.

    Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The

Some very useful stuff in this thread! For anybody who doesn't know, this book, which is well worth getting in and of itself, features a very lovely pull out version of Thorin's map on high quality, thick...

    1:1 Dead Space Lurker sculpture

I've just received a message from Paul Mathus at Visceral Games saying they'd like to buy him to display at their offices...I hate to think how much shipping would cost on a 3 foot tall tentacle baby from England to California...

    1:1 Dead Space Lurker sculpture

I sculpted straight onto the armature wire, I could've saved clay if I built up the armature a bit more but I was kind of making the sculpt up as I went along so the way I did it gave me a bit more freedom as I could reposition the limbs and stuff into more dynamic positions.

    1:1 Dead Space Lurker sculpture

Thanks guys. I built the armature onto a strong base which had joints that would let me rotate and pivot the sculpt so I could get at it from every angle: And this was the skeleton I sculpted onto (the smiley face was probably the most important part of the process): The tentacles were all...

    1:1 Dead Space Lurker sculpture

Thanks guys! Not sure about pounds, but I ended up using an entire 11kg box and about a third of another box. The skintone I would not have been able to achieve had it not been for watching the Stan Winston school video with Steve Wang talking about painting latex masks. It was incredibly...

    1:1 Dead Space Lurker sculpture

Hey guys, long time lurker (boom boom), first time poster. Thought I'd share my latest project, he's a polyurethane resin cast from a WED sculpt and stands just under 3 feet tall. The official Dead Space Facebook and Twitter feeds posted him yesterday and I've had an overwhelming response so...
