Well, I've got two projects I'm powering through at the moment, hopefully the helmet will be done when I've got the time/space to tackle this in a month or so. I'd never been tempted to do a stormtrooper before I saw this, but your work has made me do a complete 180 :)

IIRC, the technique uses a specialized sand (blended with clay or other materials) that can be formed into shapes and withstand the heat of molten metal for use as a mold. In this case, sandbagger is using foam to sculpt his armor parts, then burying them in the sand... the molten aluminum burns...

There gets to be a point where your pre-order ceases to be "saving your place in line" and becomes a straight up business loan. IIRC, the Han belt was "packed and ready to ship" back in May. That's seven months that a "finished" product has been sitting there! If they're finished as they said...

I saw that too, which really would be a shame, but my receipt did ring up as "Seasonal" so it's not terribly surprising even if disappointing. This is the best mass-market Fett helmet in 20 years, so even with the innacuracies it's nice to have one that I won't be terrified of wearing out with...

Thanks to you folks, I rode four buses for five hours, but managed to snag the last Fett in town. This is my first Fett helmet, and I never imagined it would be so large. I'm kind of amazed that this thing is $30, they could have charged so much more for it and still sold out all their stock...

I'm not sure what the OP is asking about... EL sheet that is transparent when turned off? EL sheet that can be seen through from the backside when turned on?

I skimped on the anti-aliasing to save render time, you need to see it in full-res to make out the knurling. But I assure you it's there! :P

I think the best bet at the moment, in lieu of silkscreening thousands of tiny gloss bricks onto fabric, is to look for something with a tight but visible weave. I've been looking around for an interim solution (I'd hoped to find a basketweave in alternating matte/gloss merlot) but haven't had...
