I used some pretty standard rare earth magnets I had laying around. They didn't need to be super strong because the collar I designed already head the dome nicely. I just wanted the magnets to prevent it from bobbling around in case I got jostled. (It can happen at Comic Con!)
I put grommets on mine and put bolts in the top of the armor. Then I hooked the grommets on the bolts and put the eye pieces on top of that. Held very well.

I actually went the magnet route myself and highly recommend it. That dome will bounce around if you dont. It also makes a very satisfying click when you set it in place.
Sorry, just saw this. I would highly recommend putting fans in for venting. I have a fan sitting roughly on either cheek that was pulling air into the helmet through holes drilled into the acrylic dome. This allowed me to turn my head to the left or right and have fresh air blowing directly up...
Nice. I like the collar you're designing. Again, I had zero reference so I just guessed a lot. Also, your dome is probably more accurate at 12". I went with the 14" based on some feedback from other builders here on the RPF and I think for a comics version, it's probably accurate but the film...
So I had a BLAST as Mysterio at San Diego Comic Con yesterday. There were only two others there. One was an old-school comic version and a girl had a Chinese made printed spandex suit with no helmet. I'll post more pics later but here's one of my favs:
And yes, I could see out of the...
Here's the one I bought. $20 plus like $11 shipping. Pretty sturdy acrylic.

Oh, and by the way, those Mysterio colored lights on the helmet are actually inside the helmet. Just for some added effect. I didn't want to try smoke or clouds or cotton or anything like that.
Yeah, spraying inside (as opposed to outside) was key. That way, you don't scratch the paint and the outside stays glossy. Just make sure the paint is completely dry before putting on your head. :)
I did a light spray inside the helmet with Dark Steel paint. I like it because it has a slight sparkle to it. I painted heavier along the 3/4 of the dome NOT in front of the face. I went light there. Underneath, I'm wearing a dark grey balacava which matches the paint color. Obscures the head...
