I saw Predator on cable the first time, I think. I wasn't allowed to see it in theatres. I remember seeing the cover of Fangoria (which I now own) featuring the Predator on the cover. That particular pic is still creepy somehow. I think it was the lighting in vivid reds, blues, and the contrast they struck on the Predator and its unmasked visage.
This was far before the Internet days, and what references I drew from were memory. The only still one could chance by were in Fango or maybe Starlog. So my early drawings were never exact.
I remember a 4th of July the following summer of the release that it showed on cable and I was able to stay home instead of going with the family to see fireworks. How many times I have seen the film since then i have no idea. Way too many. Enough that friends were surprised I could see the chopper flying away at the end credits of a missed film on TV and say, Oh, Predator was on.
I have a habit of drawing the Predator when the mood hits, and when practicing drawing for other projects. That or an Alien. Seeing AVP was fun, since it had been listed in Fangoria's list of top Film That You Will Never See. Sure it had its weak points and a lot of friends griped about it, but remembering that issue and seeing the creatures on the big screen was rewarding in itself. A big cool monster movie. Forget the details, plot lines, fanboy stuff and gripes, man. Just lemme see monsters on the screen.
I've dropped by this site often over the years as a resource for artwork and realized, Why not join? I have no plans on building a suit , but decided after 6 years of dropping it it's time to be part of one of the best sites for all things Yautja.
Eventually I will post some old art I've done (if it exists and can be transferred) as well as new pieces I'm doing currently that have come about and are far better in detail thanks to the folks who have added great resource stills here. I figure it is a small thank you to all of you who have taken the time to post them, and to show what someone was able to do with it.
I'm looking forward to discussions about one of the best film monsters to hit the screen in decades and find new details about all of the aspects of it.
