There in lays some of the fun in doing this saber - such weathering (at least for me) is a true joy...

Thanks gents... Another question, from an old fart too lazy to digest this thread...? The MR .45 mini has what appear to be a couple brass screws in the Graflex clamp... Is this accurate to the original prop?

When the 'fins' of the booster wear, then, does the underlaying metal show through as silver? Seems like a rookie question, but I'm not a metallurgist! And it at times is tough to tell from the images posted in this thread...

    Obi-Wan ANH Saber Build

Bit more progress... Got the clamp portion hit with the Testor's buffable Aluminum Metallizer (but still need to buff it). May wet-sand it; may hit it with a clear.. Might just cover it with chrome tape... Will also add a black wash and / or paint the openings black

    Colt 1851 Navy Conversion-please help!

Don't forget that "shiny silver" on screen can look dull and weathered in person...! Love the idea of subtle wash with black / burnt umber. Have you used Liquitex paints? Acrylics, available in tubes from Michael's, and water-reducible... All colors in the line go on somewhat transparent...

Scratch Build: The Rock - Trembler Device / Motion Sensor

This thread is near to my heart! Have loved The Rock, this prop, and the VX pearl strands and cannistters... And can't believe I've not stumbled on it in the past 3-4 months! Excellent job - a project I've always wanted to tackle... Thanks for sharing this with the community!

Thank you! I think your pistol is just about there! Looks fantastic... Try a black wash with a water-reducible acrylic paint, (so you can wipe it off easier) on the snakes and the brass. I think that would make a huge difference and really complete an already-fantastic looking project!

Hard to capture the effectiveness, but hope these do a bit... The Baretta is a metal airsoft, but the finish is indeed paint. All others are plastic...

In brief, what is the 'story' on the chrome / foil tape on the Graflex clamp? I've been scanning this thread, but just too much content to absorb much more than the images...

    Colt 1851 Navy Conversion-please help!

Final coat for all components of the gun? My "secret sauce" for blued gun metal is to hit the barrel (and all other blued parts) with a satin or flat black, and wet sand to 3,000 grit. At times, I have come back with a clear semi-gloss, but that is not always necessary. This does not add an...

    Obi-Wan ANH Saber Build

So where am I on this Frankenstein of an Obi-Wan Saber? Of the original yellow resin cast, I: --Hacked off the pommel to use the metal copy of the Shanks sink knob --Sliced off the grenade cast, thinking it would facilitate using the original Graflex clamp (not gonna) --Filled the booster fins...
